These are people who have the ear of the White House and they will nto tolerate women in the draft.
They actually never cared for having women in the armed forces at all, but with that battle lost, they aren't about to let their president sign on to drafting women.
The fundy wackos still live in a 1941 type of world where the men all go off to war and the demure women are expected to stay on the homefront as wives and mothers.

If drafting a few broads will help their little Republican College son's easier deferments, what the hell, the poor hicks need the jobs anyway. :sarcasm:
No, despite how much the Right Wing postures about their responsibility to protect "The Delicate Female", when it comes down to the lives of THEIR SONS vs. poor YOUNG WOMEN, they don't give a damn about protecting women.
When the draft comes, women will be sent too. The Right Wing Investor Class can always spin an excuse when it suits THEM and THEIR families.

Though I'm split on whether it should be in combat type mos. They should be obligated to SOME sort of service if males are made to do so.
I am 50, female and a vet. In the middle of 3 generations of women in my family who were in the military. My Mom was in the Army Air Corps, I was Army and Army National Guard and my daughter was Air Force.

We can't expect equal rights and then accept special exemptions.
On edit: female, non-vet (husband was Naval Air, mother was Naval Nurse Corps, Father was Army) and I'm older than you. :)

I was at a air show recently, and listened to a couple of pilots bragging... and one said "I never break the rules, I am a model pilot." The image that produced in my head is the one shown (well, sort of... I found it on a google search). Model pilot indeed!

Yes, draft women and men. Gay and straight. Rich and poor.
If you are physically able and want to enjoy the "freedoms on the march" then put your ass at risk.
Forgot to add. Male, straight, non-veteran approaching 60 (damn it).

Any discussion of it, trivializes its importance to me. The response has to be action of some sort, not words.

13. Draft Dodgers of both sexes welcomed |
|
War is for fools. I've always thought women for the most part were smarter than men--but then I'm a woman. I wouldn't fight in any damn war so that a few could make millions and even billions at my expense. The only war I go for is one of self defense. If I had kids of draft age I would be ecstatically proud to see them refuse to go to war except for the same reason noted above. As for U.S. draft dodgers, I have written my M.P. supporting legislation which would make U.S. draft dodgers (without criminal convictions save draft dodging) welcome in Canada.
While I rarely, if ever, agree with anything the neo-conservatives put forward, I find that in this instance, women should NOT be inducted into the armed services. What I do want them to do instead, however, is use every ounce of intelligence, determination and persuasion to force our leaders into peaceful negotiations. That's a helluva lot harder than pickin' up a gun and killin' someone cuz you've been ordered to. As I say, war is for fools.

That being said, if we have one, women should not be exempted, and they should fill any position they are physically able to.
Equal rights for the sexes means the unpleasant stuff too. You can't have the rights without the responsibilities that go along with them - that's part of being a free, adult, fully functioning member of a democratic society.
On Edit: I am female and possibly of an age to be drafted if they get really desperate (which they probably are since they tried to recruit me via telephone last week). All my life I have enjoyed the social equity that my sisters in the women's rights movement fought for, and I think it only fair that I now also take my place alongside the men of my generation to face the same trials they do (whether that means being drafted or taking the consequences of refusing to serve).
