Blair's Son to Intern with Republicans in US House of Representatives!
(I KID YOU NOT!.......:eyes:)

Blair son to be Republican intern

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair's eldest son Euan will work as an intern with Republican staff in the U.S. House of Representatives, the prime minister's office said on Sunday.

Euan, 21, will spend three months working with a committee which determines how U.S. legislation is considered in the lower chamber of Congress.

"Euan Blair has been given the opportunity to take up a short, unpaid internship with the Rules Committee of the House of Representatives," said a spokesman at the prime minister's Downing Street office.

Despite Blair's close relationship with U.S. President George W. Bush, the news raised eyebrows among some Democrats who see Blair's Labour party as natural allies, reported the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

"It is extremely surprising that the son of a Labour prime minister would intern with the Republican majority staff on the committee," the paper quoted Eric Burns, communications director for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, the committee's leading Democrat, as saying.

The newspaper said Euan would be mentored by David Dreier, a Californian representative to the Republican leadership in the House, during his internship.

3. I don't believe congressional internships should go to foreigners
We need to be teaching American youths about our system of government. Washington internships are competitive and prestigious
and this kid is only taking a spot that would otherwise go to an American young man or woman.

Were all the internships in the British House of Commons filled up?

4. So I'm guessing Euan won't be among the thousands more British
troops Bush is demanding Blair send to Iraq and Afghanistan (according to another thread). How nice that Bush and Blair don't have to worry about their offspring going off to fight their ugly wars. :sarcasm:

5. wonder what his reaction will be when he realizes how much better the UK's
social safety net and healthcare system is than the one his new boss will be touting.

I get the feeling that young Euan will lose his taste for partisan politics given his father's distate for religion in politics, and having recently been backstabbed by Bush on increasing aid to Africa.

6. no doubt the blairs are grooming their son for power....
their boy wants to see how washington is run.
unfortunately the dems don't do much of that any more.
after 3 months in dc, blair's boy can provide daddy with insight. blair with still be prime minister for a number of years.
this is pure self interest and practical politics by blair.
what use getting to know the OUT party?
