Take it to Karl - US Soldiers letter
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 12:36 AM by Brundle_Fly
Active Iraq Soldier: Karl, Come over _here_ and say that, Chickehawk...

From the mailbag:

I'm writing you from Iraq, about 35 miles NW of Baghdad.. And I'm too tired to give Karl the verbal beating he deserves for his insults. I'm too tired because we're jsut a bit shorthanded over here, fighting his war for him. A war taht has made nearly every country in the world fear and distrust America, a war fought for a knowing lie dreamed up by Karl and his buddies, none of whom have ever heard a shot fired in anger, or helped pick up the parts of another human being after an IED blast.

I enlisted after the war beganm and after I'd gotten my degree. I could easily have stayed home and watched the war on TV, and Karl does. I do not support this war in the slightest, but I will not sit at home and lecture others on their insufficient patriotism when the nation is in need. I joined because I believe in giving back some measure of service and devotion to my country.

To hear a man like Karl insinuate that only conservatives are really patriotic is a knife in the back to every man and woman in Iraq who serves here. At least a third of us voted against Bush and pals. The number increases every day that we stay here, forced to make bricks without straw for months on end.

We've been here for 6 months. We're going to be here for at least 6 more. And next week we're moving to a more 'active' sector because the unit there is rotating home and the are is still too hot to entrust to the IA or IP, most of whom are still not fit to guard a traffic light, despite two years of efforts on our part. For some of us, this is our second tour through Iraq. My unit, was the tip of the spear in OIF I. At least half of us are combat veterans of a major battle and liberals. Can any of your gang say that, Karl?

Never insult me and my fellow liberals again, Karl. Watching a fat, hateful thing like you that has never faced any greater danger in your life than a long golf shot denigrate every liberal who has put on a uniform is more demoralizing than ten thousand speeches that uphold America's highest ideals from Sen. Biden or Byrd.

Rove is a pos and this vet is right on. Why don't Rove and company go over there? With all due respect to chickenhawks, which are really not bad birds, the term fits very well in this case.

My local weekly said this week that there are no vets in our area who would speak out against the war. I think I'll start by forwarding this letter/website to them. Any other ideas?

This soldier is a true patriot:patriot:

12. Okay, here's my letter to our weekly
In Bill Leuders Watchdog (June 24, 2005), he writes that local vets all seem to be pro-war. It would be interesting to ask that same question of local soldiers currently serving in Iraq for their opinion on whether or not they support the war. Many soldiers' letters have appeared at http://takeittokarl.blogspot.com/ since Karl Rove's statements to the media last week about liberals not being interested in fighting terror. These soldiers are angry at Rove's comments and rightly so. They are there fighting and in harm's way every minute of every day. Karl Rove has never served in the military and has never, as one soldier writes, "...had to pick up the parts of another human being after an IED blast".

Who is anti-war? Soldiers of all stripes whether conservative, liberal, Bush-supporting, or Bush-opposing. Those who support the war in Iraq shouldn't be here. They should head to their local military recruiting office and enlist.

18. A number of excellent letters at that site
http://takeittokarl.blogspot.com/

Here are some random quotes I like:

"My family's message to Republican candidates on the
city, local, state, and national level is simple: You
call us traitors? Don't even think about asking for
our vote."

"Who is going to volunteer to serve in the military, to serve a country that is led by people who think "liberals" aren't worthy Americans."

and more

21. Good one
that site needs to be sent to every Republican running for office ~ like Gov. Pataki, who backed up Rove's attack on Democrats and who will be running next time. Good luck to him getting any Democrat votes, which he will need!

Why is this not all over the media, that Karl Rove has demoralized the troops and given aid and comfort to the enemy with his hateful attack on them and their Democratic families?

And why are Democratic leaders not screaming about it the way Rebulicans screamed when Durbin told the truth, but they twisted his words and didn't stop, (Including Karl Rove) until they got an apology?

That site should be sent to every Republican who supported that disgusting, moron. The only Repub so far who said he doesn't support him, is Sen. Santorum, surprisingly.

And the DSM can be tied into this. No need to sacrifice one issue for the other.

Rove said 'Republicans were ready for war' as soon as 9/11 happened. We KNOW that now, they were ready for war way before that, because of the DSM. And Iraq was the WRONG country, Karl!!

20. "Forced to make bricks without straw"
What a great phrase. Karl Rove needs to get to Iraq, pronto! Because when he gets there and experiences first-hand the carnage and the danger, he'll be shitting bricks left and right.

"At least half of us are combat veterans of a major battle and liberals. Can any of your gang say that, Karl?"

Right between the eyes, soldier. Good shot!

32. Welcome to DU! There are a couple of other resources like this
one, too. Michael Moore says he's heard from oodles of them, and wanted to put together a book of their emails. Also there's www.mfso.com - I believe - which stands for Military Families Speak Out. Some of their stories are so heart-rending.

Glad you're here - we NEED you in OUR war - to get THIS war STOPPED!!!

23. So what does this mean for me?
I'm gonna put myself out here and say that I support our troops, I've got my card(I know that isn't saying much), but I don't have a stupid ribbon on my car to "show my support". I also can't stand Bush as is everyone else here on this site. I don't like the fact that this war is based upon lies and Bush's cronies continue to find "weaker" lies to put on top of them after his support continues to drop. To get to my point..Am I not giving enough support for our troops if I sign up and help fight the fight in Iraq? Is my thanking the military for what they have done not enough? I admit it..war scares me. What our troops do is beyond courage and bravery..even if they were sent based upon Bush's lies. I never signed up for the military..It wasn't for me and this was before 9/11 happened. I'm not a Republican but does that put me in the same boat as the rest of them? Cuz if so, I don't want to be. I don't consider myself a hypocrite and I intend to keep it that way.

25. Don't join the military
Dear Ace,
The last thing you need to do is sign up as cannon fodder for this insane drive to take over the world. And I say this as a father with a son in the Marines. Stay out! Use your energy to spread the truth about this administration's lies -- WMD, torture, 9/11, social security, whatever seems most important to you. We've got to keep getting the word out.

Hearing that from someone..regardless of who it is..makes me feel better. I'd also like to thank your son for doing what he does best..if he isn't in Iraq or Afghanistan..thats fine..if he's in a base outside of this country..thats fine..if he's in a base that is still OPEN here in the US..thats fine....I thank him. Whomever else is in the military that checks this site periodically..I thank you for your work, for your support in a time that wars based on lies are "ok" according to Bush..for those in the military that read this and hate that Bush has sent you onto a war quagmire...Just think of us not the chickenhawks..the ones that support you in any means necessary..not the Republicans who quiver in fear when a military recruiter walks by.

31. Dear Ace - Welcome to DU, first of all - and DSperoRN is correct.
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 08:02 AM by calimary
Don't feed yourself into the meat grinder!!! We need you HERE - in the "war" here at home, if you will. To spread the truth. To break through the bush bullshit. To open more people's eyes.

When the war broke out, a woman I know pleaded with me in all good faith, to PLEEEEEEEEEEEZE, couldn't I at least fly our flag in front of our house to support our troops. This was as I was getting coffee for my drive over to where the local anti-war rally was being staged. I had to look straight back into her face, also in all good faith - AND resolve - that I already WAS supporting our troops - by NOT SQUANDERING THEIR PRECIOUS LIVES by sending them to fight and die for a lie. I'm still amazed by that. She and I are both mothers of sons about the same age. I know she'd be first to hop a flight to Rio if she thought her son was in danger of being drafted. Same with my best friend, who somehow still feels she has to support the damned war, but if push came to shove and her boy was facing the draft, "...well, Canada is an awfully nice country..." as she put it.

You support our troops best by telling the truth. By making damned sure that if we ever DO really have to go to war, we send our hearts' darlings into harms way for a LEGITIMATE AND MORAL REASON. NOT because some bigshot chickenhawk schmuck has a jones to prove his dick is bigger than his dad's, or he's got some stupid grudge match to settle. You support our troops by bringing them HOME from a needless, senseless war that should never have been started in the first place. You support our troops by bringing that war to an END so they can come home from there to where they belong - safe in the arms of their loved ones. You don't support our troops by being a blind lemming for a war that's being fought under false pretenses, and the poorest of planning. You don't support our troops by buying car magnets from China - as another DUer here recently put it. And you are NOT a hypocrite for objecting to the war, even as you feel for those forced to fight it. It seems to me that the hypocrites are, frankly, the women I mentioned above. Or the person who sees the truth and does nothing to further it.

WE are in a war HERE - fighting for THE TRUTH, and for accountability from our so-called leaders who got us into this mess strictly for their own gain. So, in that regard, you've already enlisted. So have we all.

Again, Welcome to DU - both you AND DSperoRN. You're ALREADY fighting the good fight, for the noblest of causes - the sparing of life and the ultimate victory of truth.

33. Welcome to DU, BlakeB - and a good question you ask.
What we do about that is - shove it in their faces ANYWAY.

Don't know if you've been lurking for some time by now but if you have, you may have run across a few (of hundreds and hundreds) posts in which the same lament is voiced: my rep is a republi-CON. Does no good trying to get through to him/her.

Well, I'm here to tell ya that ain't necessarily so...

Just look at Walter Jones, a republi-CON from South Carolina or some such place in the South. He's THE "Freedom Fries" guy, who launched that ridiculously pathetic, embarrassing campaign to change the name of french fries in the US Capitol dining room to "Freedom Fries" in an up-yours to the French (and, I suppose, others in "Old Europe" who refused to buy bush's bullshit about the war and Saddam and 9-11 and al Qaeda). Unbelievable as it seems, this very same Walter Jones is now on the forefront of the great awakening. He's not only denounced his stupid-ass "Freedom Fries" campaign, but has openly voiced his newly-realized reservations about the war in general. Now, he's questioning it bigtime, doesn't think we shoulda gone in to begin with, and wants us out of there. True story. Quite recent, too.

Souls CAN be saved. Redemption CAN be achieved.

And you watch: as the polls continue to show public support for the war declining, and as bush's numbers go farther and farther south, you watch. There will be more of his minions who start to have second thoughts - if for no other reason than that they sense he and his ideas are deeply unpopular and they don't want to hitch their wagon to an anvil (or a rock? Or Iraq?) in the next election cycle. Another DUer here (and I apologize for not making note of who said this) pointed out that even the bad guys on the dark side need to hear from us, even if they scoff or their staffers who take our calls scoff at us. They NEED to hear from us. They NEED to have it brought home to them that the opposition is ALIVE and WELL and GROWING LARGER EVERY DAY, and just might overwhelm them the next time they want to keep their jobs. And that OUR votes could make the difference between their returning to their positions of power and perks and influence, or to oblivion on the unemployment line. Yes there's also the voter fraud and the rigged election issue ever present, but remember - not every state and voting precinct has Diebold yet. It STILL makes a difference. ANY and ALL republi-CONS need to start hearing the howl of angry packs of wolves closing in around their little cabins, and the hot breath of those same predators at their front doors. The opposition to the war is worldwide. It's MUCH bigger than they are. And they need to start realizing that. They won't unless they KEEP hearing from us until it starts to keep them awake at night, and reaching for the Maalox tablets.
