smirk plans secret nuke use

U.S. to resume plutonium 238 production-report

-snip-

The newspaper quoted project managers as saying most, if not all, of the new plutonium was intended for secret missions. The officials would not disclose details, but the newspaper said the plutonium in the past powered espionage devices.

-snip-

The program, which the newspaper said had raised concerns among environmentalists, would produce 330 pounds (150 kg) over 30 years at the Idaho National Laboratory. The program could cost $1.5 billion and generate over 50,000 drums of hazardous and radioactive waste, federal officials told the Times.

Plutonium 238 is hundreds of times more radioactive than plutonium 239, which is used in nuclear arms, according to the newspaper. Medical experts say inhaling even a speck posed a serious risk of lung cancer, the Times said.

-snip-

The United States last made plutonium 238 in the 1980s and now relied on aging stockpiles or imports from Russia, the newspaper said. It added that under the agreement with Russia, the United States could not use the imports -- about 35 pounds (16 kg) since the end of the Cold War -- for military purposes.

as a country, we are insane if we let this happen

what in hell would we do with 50,000 drums of radioactive waste. we don't know what to do with the waste we already have.

3. This is INSANE....That crap is a Health Haz for 40,000 FUCKING YEARS
ARE WE NUTS??

This is what happens when we elect/allow/got robbed resulting in a madman to lead our Nation.

I guess it comes under UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES. Bush has taken his OVAL OFFICE and ramming it up our collective ASSES....and smirking it all the way to the Pig Farm in Crawdad...pissing on all of us including his supporters too.

I am convinced he hates America. Only a person/and a group of supporters who hate America would do the things he does....

He overspends in HUGE LEVELS, and wages war based on LIES and deception?? Rolls back environmental codes and laws to rape our planet setting bad example for the rest of the World...after all, WE ARE ON THE SAME BOAT CALLED EARTH

2. Why can the U.S. have a nuclear weapons program and other none????
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 10:40 AM by assclown_bush
I know we need it for our defense, but if we have to have them for defense then why can't other countries (i.e. North Korea and Iran) develop nuclear weapons? Is this just because we had them first and we are just being bullies? I know that non-Americans always question the rationale (or lack thereof). Does anyone have a good answer?
Personally, I believe no country should have nuclear weapons. Conventional weapons are horrific enough.
:hippie:  :scared: :nuke:

P238 is used to power devices, like space probes and tracking beacons and permanent targeting markers.

And maybe soon, your town. Like a big green nite lite.
Welcome to the land of tomorrow , pilgrim.
