Hillary is playing the politics game to the "T" while Boxer lets her opinions/feelings be well known.
WHO? Would you back??

36. Yeah, but... Doing it this way (instead of a poll)...
Makes the responses "actual and honest" because no anonymous freeps can slip in a vote or two (or 10) to throw it off.

Remember the "up or down vote" someone put regarding Bush on here the other day? Only one DU'er fessed up to being one of the  ... what was it.. 5 or 6 who gave the dud an "up" vote. :wtf:

At least this way, we see an actual un-freeped show of hands! :)

Oh.. and between the two choices, I'd also select Boxer! ;)

5. Boxer, without question.
she's fighting the good fight, against overwhelming odds, without being coopted by the enemy or trying to "move to center" to please everyone.
She takes her responsibility to serve the country very seriously.

in a heartbeat, Boxer.

6. A Man , but Boxer over Hillary
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 01:26 PM by Moochy
A Man. I hate to say it, but the whole "lets try to elect the first woman president" approach scares the hell out of me.

I'm all for electing a woman, but do we really have to try in 2008? Its a recipe for disaster, imo. Not because I'm sexist or old-fashioned, but because I'm cynical about the american electorate. I don't want to underestimate the woman hating right wing's organizing ability against Hillary, Boxer or anyone who can't be sold to racist sexist whites stuck in the wrong frame. You know, the republicans who voted for Bill Clinton?

You think they'll vote for Hillary given the lies they have successfully pushed against her?

The right needs to be able to be given a candidate they can vote for without feeling like they were wrong to hold their sexist views.
They need to feel comfortable with their protest candidate, and I guarantee that there will be less defectors from the republican party should we nominate a woman candidate for president.

In 2008, we need to be able to offer a candidate to the "Whats the matter with Kansas" republicans. Any woman will be a hard sell to people whose votes we need, and whose best interest would be served by a Democratic president.

on edit: Boxer if all the eligible male candidates die of bird flu.

9. Boxer
While I admire her on her merits, Hillary is completely unelectable in a general election.

The Dems really need to come to terms with the fact that Hillary is just too polarizing to possibly win a general election for president. No one is neutral about her. And outside a segment of the Democratic party, she is viewed negatively by a pretty overwhelming majority of Americans.

I agree with the almost everything she's said/positions she holds. But I still view her negatively.

IMO, if she got the nomination, she'd lose by a wider margin than Mondale did back in '84.

I think the country is ready for a woman president. But it's not ready for Hillary.

21. Realism doesn't always play too well around here.
Boxer pretty much only appeals to us, and I have no faith in Hillary's ability to win over the millions of people who rabidly hate her already (oh, and unlike Bush, Hillary doesn't balance out her polarizing effect with one that sparks unity amongst us liberals). Add in, as you stated, the fact that the American people have proven themselves bigoted in the many anti-gay marriage amendments in 2004 and would not likely vote for ANY woman at this point and I think you have a recipe for disaster in nominating either of them.

Just because Hillary is moving to the middle, doesn't mean that she would be able to take on the Republican attack machine. Barbara Boxer isn't any farther left than Michael Dukakis and America liked Dukakis when the debate was still about ideas. But then the debate became about stupid shit like Willie Horton and Dukakis got creamed. We need somebody who can take whatever the GOP will throw at them.

I like Hillary and everything, but I just don't think she could win the race for President. Hopefully Wesley Clark gets the nomination, but there is definately a whole list of people I'd like to see before Clinton. That list goes something like:

Clark
Feingold
Edwards
Kerry
Obama
Biden
Boxer
Clinton
