12 years in Iraq: 10,452 dead, 77,130 wounded, $1.2 trillion price tag?

Randi Rhodes is talking about Rummy's "estimate" of another ten years in Iraq, added to the two we've already put in. So I pulled out my fuzzy math and the current stats and projected it over 12 years.

I'm sure there's someone on DU who's got a better handle on the cost to date, but based on THIS little tidbit from NPR, if we spend what we're spending...with NO increases...we're looking at $1.2 trillion.

Iraq War Costs Could Top $80 Billion in 2005

Morning Edition, December 16, 2004 · The Congressional Budget Office projects that the cost of the war in Iraq could surpass $80 billion in fiscal 2005. That would send total expenditures for the war past $200 billion. The estimated price tag for the conflict has steadily escalated. Hear NPR's Steve Inskeep.



In terms of deaths and casualties, based on current numbers and spread over 12 years:

10,452 U.S. soldiers will die (based on current death rate)

77,130 U.S. soldiers will be wounded (based on the current rate)

5. Based on current numbers doesn't work. Graph first two

years casualties in 'Nam against first two years in Iraq and we are 'way ahead of the curve. If Iraq plays out as 'Nam did I'd guess 150,000 dead Americans and 5 plus million Iraqis--not counting Iraqis dying of cancer from DU.
