Dems target pre-Iraq war intelligence
By Josephine Hearn

Democrats are eyeing several parliamentary maneuvers to prod Congress into investigating the so-called Downing Street memo and other recently disclosed documents that they contend shows that the Bush administration manipulated prewar intelligence to build support for the war in Iraq.

Although any Democratic move will almost certainly fail in the face of vigorous Republican opposition, such maneuvers would constitute the first steps toward filing articles of impeachment, a bold step that some Democrats have left as an open question in recent weeks.

“If you read the record of the writing of the Constitution, ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ had a very particular meaning at the time of the drafting of the Constitution. It certainly didn’t mean lying about sex, but it might well mean lying to the Congress about a large public purpose such as Iraq,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said at a forum held by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) earlier this month, referring to the 1998 impeachment proceedings against then-President Bill Clinton.

Democrats and allied groups are mulling at least two options to spur an investigation.

2. my email to this reporter
Dear Josephine,

Pat Roberts promised "phase II" of the intelligence investigation. This phase was to cover the use of intelligence by the administration, and was postponed until after the election to avoid politicizing the investigation.

Roberts reiterated his promise on "Meet the Press" this past spring.

The Senate Democrats are calling on Roberts to fulfill this promise.

Impeachment is a red herring, the Democrats' demands are much more pragmatic and serious, and yet your story focuses on impeachment, which of course will never happen.

Thank you,

4. We just can't operate from the position that they are untouchable.
DeLays people have risen up. Sensenbrenners' people are not happy. Several Republican Congresspeople on the Judiciary Committee lost their elections after the Clinton debacle.

They are NOT invincible. The people can rise above the Repubublican Judiciary Committee after enough deaths and after enough of them understand that everything about Iraq was happened because of lies and deception.

We just can't let them keep coming up with excuses and reasons.

3. woooh. Go go go.
crimes against humanity.

I just had a thought. Some repubs hate Bill Clinton for lying about sex. How does their hate for Bill's lies compare with my hate for Mr.bush's lies about his actions leading to death of many people? Just a thought.
