Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack will become chairman next month of the Democratic Leadership Council, the moderate group that launched Bill Clinton toward the presidency, leading Democrats in Washington, D.C., and Iowa said Monday.

<>The council's selection of new leaders is made by "an internal consensus among the DLC leadership," spokeswoman Tammy Sun said. A key voice in determining who leads the group is Al From, the council's founder and chief executive.

More recently, From has been a strong advocate of Vilsack, having quietly supported the governor a year ago to become the 2004 vice presidential nominee. Vilsack was a finalist for the No. 2 position on the Democratic ticket, but Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts selected Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

<>Sources also said Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York is also expected to have a key position in the group's leadership.

5. Keeps him in touch with $$
That's for sure.

Also, let's not forget Iowa's First in the Nation status....if we retain it (is Governor Grandholm reading? :scared:)

Imagine if he had influence over Iowan's choice of candidate the way he (or at least his wife ;)) did in 2004?

2. Vilsack's getting payback for the 2004 caucuses.
Fuck him, Hillary, From, and the ELEPHANT they rode in on.

3. There's no way I'd support a Vilsack-Clinton 2008 ticket
If that is the ticket in 2008, I'll either vote third party or write-in a candidate for the first time in my life.

Anyway, as long as From and Reed are there, nothing will change.

6. Bayh can now play "I'm really a liberal" in time for the 2008 primaries
You can't do that easily when you're the DLC Chairman. :eyes:
