"Stay the Course" was the most deadly phrase spoken during Vietnam War |

When Johnson said 'stay the course', the was the beginning of the end for political support for the war in Vietnam. When his Cabinet parroted that phrase, "stay the course", people became less and less supportive. Because when the politicians have to rind the citizenry that we need to 'stay the course', that means the policy and decisions are in deep trouble. It's just a matter of time. If Bush uses that phrase tonight, it will have an effect like none he can imagine.

was also pretty deadly...Nixon used it a lot to describe the process of turning Viet Nam's defense over to the Vietnamese people...
sorta like Iraqization?

That is in the early stages. That is what they hope to do - turn it over to the Iraqis. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to do that yet. But, that's when you will know they have accepted defeat.
