1. From what I gather, anti choice and proud, BUT...
I believe that he doesn't want Roe v Wade to be overturned and will vote for judicial nominees who support Roe v wade.

Also, unlike Santorum, he agrees that who I have anal sex with is none of his business.

2. I have heard his politics are very much like Sen Reid's (D-NV)
Don't know for sure. But my PA relatives say he is.

4. Casey is a decent, hardworking, honest man.
He is compassionate, reasonable and fiscally conservative. The only negative on him IMO is he is pro-life. I have always been a strong supporter of Choice. Even so, he is a good guy and he will have my support.

5. Either way, you have to admit he's 100% better than Santorum

8. Casey's pro-contraception.
That puts him ahead of Santorum by a long way even on the pro-life issue.

I saw a questionnaire he responded to for a Catholic organization, in a previous campaign I believe. As I recall, one question was about whether PA should place an immediate moratorium on the death penalty, or perform a study as to whether there should be a moratorium. Casey was against the immediate moratorium but for the study. Santorum was totally against either.

I got the impression that pro-choicers will dislike some of Casey's votes on choice (such as parental notification), but he will still be a solid Dem on other issues and could be counted on for the correct vote on some other critical areas like confirmations (think Bolton).

7. Personally if I lived in PA, I'd take a closer look at Chuck Pennacchio
Mostly because I couldn't seriously ignore anybody that people are calling the next Wellstone. Speaking from a numbers standpoint, however, Casey is definately our best bet. We'll see how well Pennacchio does in the primary and if he does pretty well, I think that he would be in a good position to go for Specter's almost inevitably open seat in 2010 or even sooner.

10. here is Casey's disgusting position
when he ran for Governor, he stated that he would only allow abortions when they were necessary to save the life of the mother ... neither rape nor incest justified abortion in Casey's mind ... this means that Casey would vote for a law (or a judge) who wanted to force a woman to carry a fetus to term against her will (tie her down if necessary?) even if she had been raped ... how disgusting is that?

he did say that, if elected, and if the legislature brought him a bill that included rape or incest as justifications, he would sign it but it was not his preferred position ...

hint: find a different Democrat to support ...

11. You are being totally dishonest
when you say he would support those judges. He has repeatedly, as in several times, stated unequivacably that he would oppose those judges. Incidently judges are elected in PA so he certainly didn't say he would support state judges who are pro life. You are simply making stuff up here.

12. not dishonest ...
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 10:21 PM by welshTerrier2
i did NOT mean to suggest that he would definitely vote for a judge with those views ... it was a conclusion i drew from his stated position on the issue of choice (i did state his position on the issue perfectly, didn't I?) ... perhaps i should have included a question mark to highlight that i was citing his support for judges whose views he agreed with as a likely possibility ... that was the reason i enclosed it in quotes ...

feel free to state i was being dishonest if you prefer ... that was not my intent ...

has Casey talked about how he would vote if a SC nominee held the exact same view on the issue that he holds? and frankly, if that is his view on the issue, it's a little hard to believe he wouldn't support it in a nominee if he had no other objections ...
