10. I think promotions in the NG come much slower than active duty

I was active dutiy 86-91 - In th 1986 time frame, you made 0-2 at the 18 month mark else they were giving you a signal to start working on your resume and I believe most everyone made 0-3 at the 4 year mark.

My guess is that only Bush supporters were there as in every where else he goes. Bush would crumble like a dead leaf if ever there was opposition to him in the room.

I wouldn't use the word lifer derogatorily either. We have some good DUers who are retired military.

...a lifer is a TOTALLY different mind set....not better or worse but different priorities...I drank and raised Hell with a bunch, but knew that in their book they were constrained at a certain point to survive their 20 years and walk with that golden pension....in '72 I knew lifers with as many as 19 years and change and some with just over 4....My point wasn't that THEY showed a failing but rather that Bush would not risk a single soldier in the audience not looking toward that 20 year goal...
