NPR Fresh Air: Former Republican Senator John Danforth

Fresh Air from WHYY, June 29, 2005 · A retired Episcopal priest, Danforth represented Missouri in the Senate for 18 years. He is also the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Recently, Danforth has been outspoken about the Christian conservative bent of the GOP, writing that "Republicans have transformed our party into the political arm of conservative Christians."

One of the things he was speaking about was a same-sex marriage ban as a Constitutional Amendment. He sees it as a political move that would put something in the Constitution that does not fit as it was intended to design our government and guide our laws.
