O'Reilly Quote a Gallup Poll Tonight, which he said showed 70% |
|
support from the "folks"
I cannot find that poll - anyone else?
It was in his talking points before Wes Clark was on.

5. thanks - maybe I am wrong, I was so ripped at his nonsense, but |
|
I thought that was what he said - he kept saying folks supported and liked speech but the left wing media didn't like it.

9. Where does that come from? Look at this spin |
|
www.gallup.com
"Overall, the sample of 323 speech watchers rated Bush's speech in positive terms -- with 46% describing their reaction as "very positive" and an additional 28% "somewhat positive"
O'Reilly takes the 46 plus 28 to get 74. He takes very positve and somewhat positive and calls it "like" So he takes the 323 people polled -- calls them Americans and posts this crap.

14. Did you catch this line? |
|
"The results of Tuesday's instant-reaction poll suggest the speech was not widely viewed -- nearly half of Americans who indicated to Gallup before the speech that they intended to watch it said they did not do so when successfully re-contacted by Gallup in the first half-hour following the speech's conclusion."

4. They don't call him "O'Lielly" for nothiing!! |
|
I would seriously doubt such a poll exists. Even if it does, it's from Gallup, and they're heavy rethugs.
So either way you look at it, it's a :puffpiece: puffpiece
(First time EVER I have used that avatar!!)
(or seen it used) :)

7. oreilly is bullshitting. the poll he is talking about... |
|
is not a * approval poll. It was a reaction poll to the speech, it was about 70% 'very' or 'somewhat' positive response to the speech. Most reaction polls to speeches have positive reactions. That doesn't mean it will effect * overall approval rating. the reaction numbers to the it are lower than most of his other speeches AND had very low viewership (20 mil).
Oh, and i beat O dummy didn;t mention that over half the poll's respondants were Republicans.

8. Heard PigMan Limbaugh saying that the polls |
|
approving Bush's speech were very high. Only heard it in passing and I think he said something about a 'flash poll' right after the speech.
Maybe the Pe-uw pollsters called up Cheney and Rice and the family pets right after the speech.

11. That's the Gallup/CNN poll |
|
The one where they called 1000 in advance but only a third actually watched.
The final sample of ~350 was something like 50% Republicans, 26% Independents, 24% Democrats. The "strong positive response" was 46%, the "positive" response was 28%...something like that.
So O'Reilly grabs the 46% and 28% and suddenly has 74% 'support',
All it was that 90% of Republican-identifying folks responded "strong positive", everybody else didn't care much.
That's 38% 'support' when you normalize it against the full population.
Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Bush got Republicans to stop fraying for while, nothing else is evident (yet). That's at most a 4-5% blip upwards.
