42 percent of Americans support possible impeachment of Bush |
|
42% of Americans Favor Possible Bush Impeachment Submitted by jonschwarz on Thu, 2005-06-30 14:08. General Discussion A Zogby poll released today finds 42% of all Americans—including 25% of Republicans—say that "if it is found that President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should hold him accountable through impeachment." According to Zogby, in Eastern and Western states supporters of impeachment outnumber opponents.
Zogby also found that Bush’s speech on Tuesday "produced no noticeable bounce in his approval numbers, with his job approval rating slipping a point from a week ago, to 43%."

You can have 99.999% of the population in favor of impeachment, and it is not going to happen until there is a majority in the house. I don't think more than a handful of Repukes have shown they would break ranks from kissing the presidents ass.

Don't forget...house members have elections coming up in 2006. They care about re-election which means pleasing their own people to get their votes. They won't sacrifice themselves for Bush. They are all out for themselves. They are only loyal to Bush if he's popular (choke) and his numbers are up...because that helps them. Low numbers don't help them...get it. As his numbers and popularity go down they will run from him like rats off a sinking ship!

14. No, no, no! Don't you know WE have to get 70%, 80% just to get |
|
the will of the majority enforced--not 52%, or 53%, or 54%, or even...ahem...60% (the real Kerry vote).
Nearly 60% of Americans opposed the Iraq war BEFORE the invasion. I will never forget that stat. Before. And after the invasion, with major fighting supposedly over, it went right back up to 60% and stayed there until recently when it shot up to nearly 80%.
63% of Americans oppose torture UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (5/04). That's an impressive statistic--that many Americans sticking to their ethics and the rule of law despite all the fear-mongering. But did that stop the Bush Cartel from installing the torture memo writer Alberto Gonzales as chief law enforcement officer of the U.S.? (No.)
Same on all major issues, foreign and domestic. Opposition to Bush policy way up there in the 60% to 80% range.
When are people going to realize that this man does not represent the majority and WAS NOT ELECTED!?

22. P.S. However, that 42% who now want him impeached is stunning! |
|
It's one thing to vote to oust him and his Oil Cartel, or to dis him in a poll, or to be just very, very unhappy with his policies. It is quite another to say you want him impeached!
Americans generally don't like that kind of talk at all. It's scary. It's de-stablizing. It frightens markets. It's a drastic measure (except in the hands of Bushites--who gleefully sought impeachment of a president who was a very good administrator, had maintained the peace and had created a huge budget surplus). Anyway, aside from impeaching a guy cuz he lied about sex, Americans don't like it. (And, actually, they didn't like THAT--Clinton's approval remained very high throughout.)
This is news! And I think that the number who finally grok that Bush wasn't elected, and that massive election fraud occurred, is going to follow that pro-impeachment number right up the chart.
It's becoming blatantly obvious that he doesn't represent the majority in the country, and that we have an unaccountable and illegitimate government ordering people to their deaths, robbing our coffers, and trying to unravel a hundred years of social, political and economic progress.

|
From that Zogby link:
In a more significant sign of the weakness of the President’s numbers, more “Red State” voters - that is, voters living in the states that cast their ballots for the Bush-Cheney ticket in 2004 - now rate his job performance unfavorably, with 50% holding a negative impression of the President’s handling of his duties, and 48% holding a favorable view.

40. Yep - even if the votes are verifiable - doesn't mean they were verified. |
|
If they think they are going to appease us with verifiable they will need to think again. Just saying. Any vote count will need to be independently verified, which was not done in Ohio or anywhere else in 2004.

So if we add the 25% of the republicans to the 50%+ of the population that voted democratic last Nov. that 75% of Americans that think Bush should be impeached.

|
This is the first time it's ever been polled, and people haven't been prepared for it by the talking heads. This is HUGELY encouraging this early in the day, when people don't have many details to fall back on. A lot of the rest of them are giving asshole the benefit of a doubt, but given his poll numbers and what's finally coming out in the press, that could change very rapidly

Screw it...Shrub is the President and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. If the Red States (of which Im in one) are pissed about the state of affairs under the Boy King they have themselves to blame.
There will be no impeacement with the current gang of thugs in the House...

I remember what it took to get Nixon out of office. We're nowhere near that, especially with the Repugs in control.
What I want to know is, have the Repugs stopped putting Zoloft in the water supply? Why are people waking up now to the fact that they've been deceived, and that the government is run by an idiot? Where were they last November when they could have done something about it?
I have no sympathy for people who are only now discovering what a colossal disaster Bush is. Morans!

I wonder what wattage of incompetence would it take for the minions out in “Red-State Ville” to see the light.
I honestly don’t think there is any. Yea Yea, the polls show Chimp is “on the outs”, but people don’t just throw their political heroes over without a real fight.
I find it hard to believe anything substantive is going to happen and I pretty much know the Republican right is behind him. Oh, I have friends and families (seemingly all Repuke) who moan and complain about everything the guy says or does, but right when they get to the apex of their criticism they begin bashing Clinton or something. It’s like they’re being programmed.
I do think we are sowing the seeds with the moderate voters who stupidly voting for the “more moral man” in 2004 instead of “the better man”. I think these people will be ready to shit-can this entire right-wing cadre in 2008 or maybe even 2006.
This is why you will see a “wolf in sheeps clothing” in 2008. I don’t think they will nominate a blabbering dunderhead like Frist, Gingrich, or Allen. I believe the PNACers will modify their stance. Maybe go with a “moderate” President and a despicable VP so “the work (transferring wealth and power to the chosen few)” can continue unabated.
But don’t get yer hopes up…W.Bush will see the end of his term. He will go down as the biggest nihilistic boob ever to hold residence at 1600 PA, but he will finish all 8 of his sad-sack years.

not just a no vote. That's "high crimes and misdemeanors"--not to mention disgrace, potential instability, and all the rest. And I don't know that it said 58% disagreed. There must have been some undecideds. Haven't read the actual poll yet.

so not everyone in the 42% necessarily believes bush told a lie. It's a hypothetical. they may refuse to believe bush told a lie, but still believe if he had, in their minds, he should be impeached.
