I hope what happened in London today does not happen here. |

7 explosions in London today. Today is 7/7. I really hope this is not the beginning of something bigger. Morning has arrived in America. People are about to go to work. Bush is out of the country. Cheney is no where to be found. Bush's approval ratings are in the toilet. Why do I have a strange feeling about this? Not to sound paranoid but it's all too weird. I really hope this is not the beginning of something bigger.
Does anybody see a potential connection to all that is happening?

Right now, in NYC and other cities, there is a full-court-press on by law enforcement and other emergency services.
Look for NYC to be pretty well bogged down today. Which is, if this was a terrorist incident, the intended effect. That said, if there are any incidents in NYC, Washington, Boston or anywhere else with a very robust mass transit system, in the US, this will be a marvel of coordination on the part of the terrorists.

9. unfortunately, that is my biggest fear also |

so far the people here have been like sheep
hopefully, they see the folly of going into Iraq, and NOT uniting the world after 9/11 to go after terrorism

At first, I was going to come on and say something to the effect that, well gee, we ALL hope it doesn't "happen here", as they probably still wish it wouldn't have happened in London, right now. This very minute. Seemed a little insensitive to be saying "hope it doesn't happen here" so soon, only hours after.
But, you didn't mean it that way, and, I think you're right. If these neocon monsters have *anything* to do with this...and they're just as likely as the terrorists, they aren't any less bloodthirsty, any less power hungry or any more ethical...then to attack us here at the same time would certainly be an event they could use. It is not beyond these monsters, and we know it.
Yeah, unfortunately, seems to me you have a very good point. If it was a good time to attack them, it may very well be a good time for us as well, in the eyes of the monsters.

This is something you would not wish on anybody. My point is I hope this is not the start of something bigger. Give Bush an excuse to turn America into a full-on dictatorship. Bush, Cheney, and Rove know they are in deep trouble. What better way to stay in power than create chaos. I don't like the feel of this one bit!

We are no safer.
No, it is NOT better to face them over there than here - while our troops, money and intelligence are tied up in an unwinnable war, they can come and go as they please and blow up anyone anywhere anytime they chose. If, anything, this recent attack has really crystallized my thinking and removed any lingering doubts about Iraq.
That line of Bush's that "fighting them over there" is good is just plain wrong. Doesn't it really mean that he has left us at home unprotected? - we have no National Guard to speak of anymore. And also, hasn't he just created a shooting gallery for our enemies to pick off our troops?
Every time Bush utters the words "9/11" it's his cynical acknowledgment of America's malleability. The fact that he even uses it as his rallying cry is unbelievable. He should be running from the phrase since every time he says "9/11" we should think about 3,000 people dead because he was on vacation and he and his staff couldn't be bothered to take seriously briefing papers about OBL. When he says "9/11", we should think about a President who sat unmoved and unmoving in a Florida classroom while hijacked planes flew in our skies.
When Bush says "9/11" we should ask ourselves - why didn't he punish the people really responsible? Why hasn't he protected our ports? Why did he animate the entire world against us in fighting this false war of avarice against a contained secular nation, instead of leading the world on a mission against fanaticism?
When Bush says "9/11" we should ask ourselves - why is this man still my President? Does he deserve to retain that title? Has he protected me and made me safer?
If I were the British people, I would ask these same questions of Tony Blair.

Europeans respond differently. Consider Spain. DSM matters in Britain and there is failing confidence in Blair and his agenda to assist Bush in his cowboy adventures. The British could respond more along the lines of "See what you got us into, rather than the fundamentalist pop culture goose-stepping behind chimpy wrapped in the flag all American reaction.
