Oh God. Santorum's written a book..
"U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum confronts liberalism as the primary source of America's troubles in his first book, It Takes a Family, an account of his conservative philosophy that has already become a campaign football.

Santorum takes on two-working-parent families, divorce, living together before marriage, public education and decades of "failed" liberal policies that he says have weakened the country's social and moral fiber. Conservatism and support for the traditional family would go a long way in curing society's ills, he wrote."

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/front/12070387.htm

"In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might confess that both of them don't really need to, or at least may not need to work as much as they do," he wrote.

He went on to question why women find a career more gratifying and socially affirming than staying home with their children. "Here, we can thank the influence of radical feminism," he wrote.

What a dipshit.

20. That would have worked but the cover is...
like a stained glass window with the modern day family posed just like Jesus, Joseph & Mary. Kind of creepy. Just go to www.amazon.com and search for Rick Santorum. It's the first one that comes up. Read some of the reviews, there are some perfect anti-Santorum ones!

9. Actually, Santorum shot himself in the foot with this book.
I grew up in Pa. What he said in this book will stop 90% of all Pa women to vote for him!

Even in the rural areas of the state, Pa women don't believe in the "keep 'em barefoot and pregnant phylosophy" anymore!

Keep it up Ricky! You'll save Casey a lot of money!

I can't understand how he could get re-elected in this state writing this sort of crap. Of course Toomey came too close to defeating Spector.

18. I don't really hate Arlan. I know he's a Pub, but he's at least a
rational one. What have you heard about him lately? Every time I see him on TV, he looks worse. I feel bad for him. I honestly believe he may have to resign because of his health, but there's a good side to that, in that Rendell will get to appoint a replacement to complete Arlan's term.

10. One could ask the last question about men as well....
Why do men find a career more gratifying and socially affirming than staying home with their children?

Maybe, just maybe, I could see a case made for having a single income family, but the notion that it has to be the male who has a career and the woman staying home playing the role of June Cleaver is just misogynistic.

14. Good question!
Something that irks me is when parents whose single income is high tell the rest of us "if we just looked at our finances" or "made a few sacrifices" or "get our priorities in line" we could make it as single income families too. Hello? Sen. Santorum, your single senate income is higher than both my husband's and mine combined and we live in a more expensive state than PA. I'd like to see you and your brood live on what MY husband makes as a temp with no benefits.

There are certainly advantages to having an at home parent, but obviously each family needs to weigh those against the costs.

24. Who ever it is that is staying home
Should be the one who is best with the children, no matter who makes the most money...

If truth be told, that is....

Now I know a lot of women who are mothers that should have never been allowed to procreate. I would rather the person who is best with the kid's take the job....

HAving said that....

Officer Krupkie, both of my parents worked and I turned out okay.....

11. Reminscent of a Newsweek interview with Ralph Reed (I think)..
...that I read some years back.

Where he was talking about two-income families.

To paraphrase, in the interview he said that people just stopped buying a boat and luxury items, women wouldn't have to work.

My thought was: How fucking out of touch do you have to be to make that assumption. Most two-income families are doing so out of sheer survival and are just making ends meet, not buying big-ticket items.

16. Santorum doesn't have a clue about what it is like for working families in
this country.

"In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might confess that both of them don't really need to, or at least may not need to work as much as they do," he wrote.

That sentence alone ought to kill any chance he had of reelection if his opponent runs any kind of competent campaign at all.

Suggest bumper sticker for PA Democrats:

It takes a voter...
to defeat Santorum.

Yeah, sure asshole! We'll drop down to one income so we can be further enslaved to your corporate contributors with no chance of getting ahead. That statement is infuriating - any suggestions as to how we can survive and save for two future college educations on $30,000 / year?

That bastard is so out of touch, I hope the Dems in PA realize what a gift Santorum's book is. They need to buy one copy and run commericials with those quotes over and over.

Believe it or not I live in Maryland and I had to read the list twice before I could comprehend this book being recommended. There are only three democratic state represenatives in the four western counties yet Newt Ginrich showed up at a local repuke fund raiser to target these guys, but Chafee continues to represent RI and what is our leadership doing about "targeting" him?
