Bush on London blasts: "We will find them. We will bring them to justice"

GLENEAGLES, Scotland (Reuters) - President Bush directed U.S. security authorities on Thursday to be extra vigilant and take precautions in response to a series of apparently coordinated attacks in London.

Bush offered a statement of U.S. solidarity with Britain while attending a Group of Eight summit that was temporarily suspended as world leaders were briefed on the situation in London.

"The war on terror goes on," Bush told reporters. "I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. And that is, we will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists."

He gave no hint as to who he thought might be responsible but he used words similar to his frequent denunciations of al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Iraq. "We will find them. We will bring them to justice. And at the same time we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate," Bush said.

40. "bring them to justice?" "find them?" That's what Clinton said and he
was roundly criticized. What happened to "we will smoke them out and kill them?"

3. What if it is the IRA?
I find the assumption that it was Islamic terrorist by everyone (even Galloway) to be a little myopic and even racist at this point.

8. It just fits the agenda better to say it was Islamic terrorists.
"We used to have a wanted poster in the old West...WANTED, dead or alive"

"They can run, but they can't hide"

"We'll smoke 'em out of their caves"

"Bring it on"

"Firm resolve"

"We will not waver"

Lather, rinse, repeat.

:grr:

13. Because it doesn't fit the pattern of the IRA...
... for the last thirty-odd years, according to experts there, and the current feeling in the UK is that the IRA has absolutely nothing to gain from doing this right now.

And, if you'd spent any time in England or Ireland, you'd understand that an accusation leveled at the Irish would be considered just as racist in nature. There's a very long history to that.

Cheers.

20. Actually, given Provo's disarmament, accusing the IRA is just as racist...
as going off half-cocked over Islamic jihadists. First off, this doesn't match the M.O. of the "Boys of the Old Brigade" -- they're big on political targets, not innocent civilians. Second, Sinn Fein wants legitimate political power in Ulster, which precludes action on the part of the military wing.

Good point... It's time to say to the Saudis and Pakis, and all the rest who support, either openly or covertly, islamic terrorists, "Either you clean up your house, and put an end to this, or we'll do it. And we won't be making any distinction between 'good' muslims and 'bad' muslims. We can't tell the difference, so it will be up to you. You've got 24 hours to decide."

You got that right. I'm tired of these bastards. Blow them to hell!

TC, I think it's possible you may have hit the nail on the head here.

A "new" Islamic group claims responsibility on their "new" website?

Approval ratings dropping like a rock

DSM

Plame-gate

Impeachment mentioned on MSM

What would be the perfect medicine for this terrible disease?

A new enemy, a new war

God help us if you turn out to be right

 he is such a manipulative asshole that repeats the same thing over and over again. I know it works for him but come on!! These people that were bombed that were interviewed are so smart and have taken this better then most people. Some of them aren't out for revenge right now, they are there trying to help people and make sure people are okay. I wish there was a bone of decency in this man's body. Wait a day before he starts politicizing the event.

21. Bombing does NOT fit the IRA Profile...
This was summed up very nicely on NPR this morning.

-No IRA bombings in nearly a decade.

-IRA always sent a coded warning message just prior to the bombing.

-IRA almost always bombed late Friday nights or early Saturday mornings to avoid casualties.

29. And even in the million to one shot that it was IRA...
It would be the Real IRA or another tiny splinter group, not the Provisional IRA that most people are familar with.

In any case, it's a moot point. I'd stake just about anything on this not being the Irish Republican Army.

33. Why do I get the feeling that everything bad is the work of Bush?
No matter what happens, it yields in favor of Bush profits, and against "the people". Having not read anything on these threads yet, I just have this sneaky feeling that this blast could not have come at a better time- Drown out the damning Downing Street Memo; Push the Plame news into the background noise; Give the BFEE more power to make profit and run around the world chasing invisible boogey men.
As ignorant as it may make me sound, I simply don't trust these evil clowns in any way. They'd do anything to gain power and profit. Anything.

41. Here's what was just posted on the White House Web Site:

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
July 7, 2005

President Offers Condolences to People of London, Will Not Yield to Terrorists
Gleneagles Hotel
Auchterarder, Scotland

PRESIDENT BUSH: I spent some time recently with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and had an opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to the people of London, people who lost lives. I appreciate Prime Minister Blair's steadfast determination and his strength. He's on his way now to London here from the G8 to speak directly to the people of London. He'll carry a message of solidarity with him.

This morning I have been in contact with our Homeland Security folks. I instructed them to be in touch with local and state officials about the facts of what took place here and in London, and to be extra vigilant, as our folks start heading to work.

The contrast between what we've seen on the TV screens here, what's taken place in London and what's taking place here is incredibly vivid to me. On the one hand, we have people here who are working to alleviate poverty, to help rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS, working on ways to have a clean environment. And on the other hand, you've got people killing innocent people. And the contrast couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill -- those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks.

The war on terror goes on. I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. And that is we will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists. We will find them, we will bring them to justice, and at the same time, we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate.

Thank you very much.

END 1:32 P.M. (Local)

42. "we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm..
their ideology of hate," Too late bush, you've already created more
hate with your hate than any amount of AQ work. The english language
should have little apostriphies before words that are totally
disengengenuous, where doublespeak is the dictionary.

"And at the same time, 'we will 'spread an 'ideology of 'hope and
'compassion that will 'overwhelm their ideology of 'hate,"

The only way you can make this claim seriously, MR. bush is when you
turn yourself in to the Hague to be tried for war crimes against the
civilian population of iraq.
