1. ONe of the idiots said they hate us for our freedoms...
They hate us because we're greedy and ethnocentric bastards. Every time I hear that bullshit I want to break something.

7. That's okay. A couple more far right SCOTUS justices and those freedoms
won't be a problem, in fact we'll have a nice theocracy just like they do.

8. I went to see Laurie Anderson just before the election
(stay with me, it's related, I swear)

And she likened us to the girl in school who'd say "People hate me because I'm beautiful." To which Laurie replied, "No, they don't like you because you're a jerk."

She had a very interesting segment about 9/11. It was interesting hearing the perspective of an artistic person who'd been there in NY.

9. He was great.
He also said that the politicians just talk the talk but don't intend to do diddly.

Then Lou's next guest comes on, Gen. Grange. Lou says do you agree that we need to go on the offensive? That's not what the CIA guy said. I was shocked! shocked I tell you!

11. Maybe he meant change our policies?
(Since Scheuer said "they hate us because of what we do in the Middle East."

Although that's not how most people would understand the phrase "go on the offensive."

12. That's what he said & here's the link:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0507/07/ldt.01.html

Scheuer: "I make of the fact, sir, that unfortunately the politicians are very comfortable with preaching the idea that this is a very small group of people who are opposing us, and that they hate us for our freedoms and our liberties. The politicians really are at great fault for not squaring with the American people. We're being attacked for what we do in the Islamic world, not for who we are or what we believe in or how we live. And there's a huge burden of guilt to be laid at Mr. Bush, Mr. Clinton, both parties for simply lying to the American people."

15. Hi blonndee!
You paraphrased just fine!

I just promised a link earlier and thought given that you gave an accurate account of what he was saying, it was an appropriate place to put the link.

16. Really, thanks for the link! I want to read the whole transcript.
I didn't think you were criticizing me or anything.

(I'm an English Comp teacher so I should have known better than to put it in quotes, though.) ;-)
