How Many on this Board are involved with the local Dem Party
It's important. If you really want to change the way the party operates, get a voice, now is the time to think about it.

BEing an elected PRecinct committee person entitles you to have a say in how your local party is organized, run and who it endorses.

The PCM in most states are santioned officials of the party. That means they are the elected representives of the party....

In most states, it is the local PCM who ultimately elected the party representative to the Board of Elections...

The elections are typically held in the even off year. 2006, 2010 etc.

Look into it. It's how you really can take our party back.....

3. Off years are odd number years 2005..... 2007.... 2009
But yes being active in local party is the way we can truly change the direction of the party. Going to committee meetings, becoming an elector, voicing an opinion..... All of these things will helpo us change the party from the ground up.

4. We always referred to non presidential years as off years
although that is when the state would gear up and we really had a say in what was going on....

6. Too many people consider those "off-years" which is one way the Repubs
got the House. Our Conresscritters are elected every 2 years. In reality, in most places, there are no "off-years." Our city elections are in the spring of the odd number years. Many of the locally elected officials go on to become state reps. They start their careers and build a name with an "easy" local election.

7. Same year, but we refered to all non presidential elections
as off years simply because of the influx of cash and attention we in Cleveland got from the national party and the local press....

We had to be on, I guess, more cognizant of what we were saying and doing.....

Don't get me wrong, every election cycle, muni all the way to the president, was inmportant to the county party. That is why our Chairman, Jimmy Dimora, has been able to maintain power for over 11 years. he delivers from the top of the the ticket to the bottom...

5. Very true. AND it's important to organize and recruit independently
as well: friends from your place of worship, school, the gym, the golf course, the volunteer center, wherever...I am not advocating this necessarily AT those places, but you get what I mean...
The Repukes have been wizard, I am sorry to say, at recruiting sheep for their slaughter; we need to be just as stellar at recruiting activists for regime change. We can settle for nothing less.

But we must convinve more people on this board to take the plunge and get into the trenches.....

It's that important and we should all be urging this course of action all the time, especiially with this election cycle....

In many states, 2006 is the year to set in motion the redistricting fight.....

15. I've been a dem pcm for over a decade,
and am also now County Vice-Chair for Labor.

You are absolutely right about the importance of participation at the most local of levels. The party can never be expected to represent us if we don't exercise control from the ground up.

This also fits in extremely well with Dean's goal of building the party in every state. We are the ones who need to make that happen. We are the troops, people.

18. Member of the county and that state and the national Dems
On several mailing lists, waiting for there to be something I can help with. Meanwhile, I'm helping to proofread the county Dems newsletter. I tried my hand at writing something, but I haven't seen it go in yet, I may have put too much of my personality into it, and not enough info. I may try again. And I plan on helping them man the State Fair Democrat booth. But that's about it.

help with mailings and membership records -

With the state of the media and the money that the repukes have, the only way we are going to have a fighting chance is to get involved on a local level - So if you are not involved with your local party, GET ON IT!

We should probably have a group here dedicated to local small party organizations, where we can brainstorm and network.

I became involved 2-3 years ago when my fiance still supported Bush. Eventually, his eyes were opened. We both had been independent, voting Green and Democratic Party mostly with an occasional 3rd party vote. We have come to believe the Democratic Party is the most viable organization to fight the current administration and ultimately evolve into a tool for justice.
