J Conyers: Common sense words on the London bombings
http://www.conyersblog.us/

London Bombings

The world experienced yet another tragic and deadly terrorist attack today. First and foremost, my heart goes out to the victims and their families. We all stand with our British friends as they deal with this indescribable tragedy.

Unfortunately, the attacks have already proven to be a political football. I was saddened to see that Fox News appeared to politicize the bombings, by claiming it “works to ... the Western World’s advantage for people to experience something like this together.” Media Matters has the full statement. Brian Kilmeade of Fox went on to observe that this would take the issues of aid to Africa and global warming off the table. Funny, but the 9/11 tragedy never took tax cuts off the table for the Bush Administration, so I don’t see why the world can’t still try to save millions of lives in Africa.

If we are to truly prevail in the war against terrorism, it is imperative that we do not let events like this change who we are as a people or alter our fundamental values and liberties. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to take up renewal of the PATRIOT Act next week, and I hope that notwithstanding the tragic events in London, the Members will still be able to do their jobs in developing a common sense response to terrorism, that respects our citizens civil rights and liberties.

Yes, it is unfortunate that many are using this event as a political football. For some particularly egregious examples, check out the lunacy over at DemocraticUnderground, or for ease of browsing, come over to ConservativeUnderground, where we have hilighted some of the more disgusting examples.
