When did the media become our prosecutors?

I have a question to those who think the London bombing means that Rove somehow slides on the Plame case.

Do you think the prosecutor, judge, and grand jury are going to stop their work because of some images on tv?

Who cares if this is on Hannity and Colmes or Meet the Press?

Either Rove gets indicted or he doesn't. It's way beyond the media now.

I just don't understand how we got this mindset that if it's not being screamed about on cable television, it's not happening.

1. The truth is that most people don't know it is happening because

it is not being screamed across the tv every second. The corporate entertainment "news" is destroying us and making us sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid.

And if he doesn't...well....it's probably better that it get little coverage. Otherwise, it looks like we went off on another wild goose chase.

2. We all know the "news" for what it is

which is a cog in the Republicon noise machine. If you want to be misinformed, misdirected and generally pumped full of BS, the news is the place to go.

You must know that we're used to our issues dying because of neglect.

This one's different (as you point out), but I think there remains a fear that it will just "go away" because of media neglect. Indeed, the media's neglect might actually weigh in our favor this time because prosecutor's, grand jurys, etc, tend to get distracted by too much media attention.

5. I don't think the media is as important as everyone else

Our issues have "died" because we aren't the majority party. We can't call hearings, we can't get bils to the floor, etc. If we had wall to wall coverage on CNN about voter fraud, I still don't think we'd get all the bills we want in Congress.

But this is different. If the prosecutor has Rove (and that is a huge IF), it doesn't matter what happens on MSNBC.

6. the court of public opinion matters very very much

if people think we're rounding up innocent reporters and jailing them unjustly and it's a whacked out liberal thing we're doing to try to oppress the freedoms of REAL Americans, then it's another tick in the Vote Republican column for their tiny little minds.

You may have a car and you may have a highway but you still have to turn the engine on, step on the gas and guide it between the pretty white lines without running over or into anything to get where you're going.

Conservatives have long known to either aggressively claim the driver's seat or just carjack the ride by whatever means necessary.

I think it's better for the prosector to do his job in relative silence, without the whole thing becoming a politicized mess.

9. I think you are right

since a large part of the population would say "Who?" if you told them that Karl Rove outed Valerie Plame (another who? about Plame as well). Without the media circus, there should be less interference and if they got the rat bastard dead to rights, then the ignorant public will hear about it! You still notice that the neocon machine is plenty worried though between that and DSM!

10. I'm "guilty". But the media IS still important.

I was one of those who posted this kind of thing. And also, I had the realization that the media doesn't control this situation, just after I posted.


BUT, there IS one thing that is important about the media. And that is getting the public all on the same page. The page of truth. If Americans were informed, and cared, they'd be communicating. Demanding. One prosecutor can do something. But the public demanding, can do everything. That's why I posted my fearful doubts.
