Norah O'Donnell and TPM's tectonic plates...
Just speculating here... Is it possible that the "huge" scandal Norah O'Donnell alluded to recently has something to do with TPM's suggestion that "techtonic plates" are about to move?

O'Donnell alluded to both the Iraq war and Fitzgerald's case when she talked about a huge scandal brewing. Is it possible that Fitzgerald, while investigating the Plame case, uncovered hard evidence that the Bush administration fabricated reasons for going to war against Iraq?

That would be huge, wouldn't it?

1. How does that work legally?
Can Fitzgerald pursue tangential crimes in the case?

Ken Starr investigated tangential cases, didn't he?

6. Star was authorized to by the 3
judge panel that oversaw the Special Prosecuter they gave him permission to check into the FBI file, and Lewinski in addition to the orriginal Whitewater situation.

There is now no special prosecuter statute so I imagine that any thing Fitzgerald may find not related to the Plame case would have to be kicked over to the Justice Department.

4. I am not a lawyer and have no law training
but I think that since the Special Prosecute law was allowed to lapse that any other violations that Fitzgerald may come across that are not in the area he was charged to investigate must be turned over to the Justice Department for investigation and prosecution.

7. Maybe that Patriot Act has something in
it that gives him the leeway to follow side clues.

10. I've been wondering the same thing
The Special Prosecutor Law was allowed to lapse (in 2000, I think) so I'm not even sure who appointed Fitzgerald or what his charter might be.

8. Are these the same "tectonic plates" from months ago?
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 10:58 AM by MostlyLurks
Marshall talked about "tectonic shifts" what, about a year ago? Are these the same ones? Or is O'Donnell making a new prediction using new fault lines? I don't follow TPM regularly, so I have no idea.

Frankly, Marshall's breathless prediction of a tectonic shift so many months ago, followed by utter silence has made me wonder if maybe his time-scale, like his prediction of the aftermath, was geologically-based. If that's so, we have only another epoch to wait before Bush's downfall.

9. I have long thought that the Plame case could lead to a broader criminal
investigation of the lies used to market the invasion of Iraq. See this October 2003 post. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=142863&mesg_id=142952

It now seems possible that there may also be an investigation into a criminal conspiracy to obstruct justice as well a conspiracy to decieve Congress and the public about the invasion. One can only hope.
