Rove to be indicted "this week or early next",
by PACollegeDem

Wow! Big news--Chris
I realize a few diaries have already talked about RedState user OhSure's comment (supposedly confirmed by good sources) that Rove is to be indicted soon, but here's a little more on the coming indictment from Dissident Voice's Joshua Frank (the link comes courtesy of Come And Take It, a community of Texas left wing bloggers):

Occasionally I get emails from Washington folks who work on the Hill claiming to possess juicy insider digs on our public servants and their corporate paymasters. I usually delete said emails, as I don't want to be responsible for propagating dirty rumors or false information that can't be corroborated. I'd rather let Judith Miller and the New York Times do that. Nonetheless, in the past 24 hours I have been contacted by three separate congressional Democrats in Washington, by email and later phone, who all say the same thing: Karl Rove is about to be indicted.

Joshua Frank also makes note of the RedState comment:

Apparently, I'm not the only one who has been leaked this information either. Over at Redstate, a right-wing Internet blog, one member who calls himself "Ohsure", also claims that " Great sources confirmed" the matter, and later added: "I not only don't do this, I have never done this. But here it is; `Karl Rove will be indicted late this, or early next week.' I'm trusting a source. So either I am made a into an overzealous horses a**, or..., I have good sources and may be more trusted to get these things right."

It looks like Rove isn't going to be able to weasel out of this. I've been skeptical since the start (as one Kossack put it "I'm afraid to get excited about this like a poor kid is afraid to get excited about Christmas) but this is definitely hopeful news. The Washington buzz is that Rove will be indicted; now let's work on that conviction.

But what about all the speculation that this could unravel something a little higher up? It looks like the White House is seeking some heavy duty cover; namely Jim Sharp. The link, also via Come And Take It, has some exceprts from FindLaw and RawStory explaining the implications of Bush seeking outside counsel and elaborating on Jim Sharp's expertise in covering up GOP "accidents", including his involvement in representing some big players in Iran-Contra.

The ball is rolling, and it will not be stopped.

18. Redstate seems as sincere AND kooky as many
of the DU and SmirkingChimp, etc. posters. Why is that?

Each "side" claims the other is in an alternate reality, both seem to use reason and logic and search for truth (barring the nutjobs from both camps) in meaningful ways. The standard denial of both sides becomes--we just can't talk to them, they've been drinking their kool-aid and we * just * cannot * get * through.

WTF?

Snip:
Wayne Madsen: Plame indictments will happen this week, if they happen
Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 04:15 PM by lancdem

He's the one who wrote the story on www.fromthewilderness.com saying explosive indictments would be issued by the Plame grand jury soon. In followup emails today, he told me a DOJ source confirmed the grand jury session ends tomorrow (June 30), so if there are indictments, they will happen by Friday.

PS - one of the many, many things Madsen has said which turn out to be wrong.

19. First of all it's spelled "perjury", with a "j". Second, yes rove is THAT
stupid, and arrogant, and ugly.

Third, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing wasn't couched in a bush* "cover karl's ass speech" like this;

"karl's a good man who got trapped in the same ole government red tape about 'what the meaning of is is', and while he didn't knowingly mean to cause harm he did ]technically break a very tough to comply with law. That's why he is going to save the trouble and expense of a trial and plead guilty, to which I will immediately pardon him. It's the right thing to do."

Be looking at the Friday news dump.

Do you think they've had enough time to digest all of the Matt Cooper evidence and testimony?

17. Rove's probable role in the original situation:
The situation strongly implies that there were at least 2 different primary sources (since Matt Cooper's specifically released him, but Judith Miller's apparently did not do the same for her) and reason maintains there were at least 6 initial calls (the 6 reporters contacted: Robert Novak, Cooper, Miller, and 3 others), and 3 follow-up calls (Novak, Miller, Cooper). This is the minimum.

In order to make sure the story leaked properly, discrediting Wilson's Niger yellow-cake findings by implying he and his wife, Valerie Plame, had an agenda against the president from the beginning one person would have to coordinate the calling. (Of course he could have made calls as well.) Neither of the 2 or more should call the other's initial contact (that would seem too eager, perhaps a dirty trick). In addition, 4-5 others would have to know the story was true in order to confirm it, and they had to be encouraged to do so.

Who better than the master of such odious activity, Karl Rove? Perhaps Cheney (who would have felt responsibility in such a matter since it was the behest of his office that the CIA sent Wilson to Niger) used his clearance to discover this information and brought it to Rove at a meeting of the White House Iraq Group (see snippy's beautiful post in DU, link at bottom of this post). Then Rove would go into high gear, doing what he does best (I mean worst). He coordinated the callings, made sure there were the requisite secondary sources ready and willing to confirm (perhaps each having different details or a different slant).

Therefore, Rove may well be both a conspirator (a little RICO, anybody?), and the leaker of illegal information, AND we may have at least one other indictment handed down. Think of the possibilities! Rice, Cheney, Libby, Hughes (why the hell did she retire before?), Matalin, etc. Maybe even W. (But the more I think about it, I wonder how many real reporters wouldn't be suspicious of a call from Rove? He might be the primary source for the likes of Novak, but few others.)

But think about the above and then read snippy's lovely item backed up by a Washington Post article:

21. I wouldn't bet money on it.
As much as I would like to see it happen, we've been down this road before time and time again with some issue that was FOR SURE going to bring down BushCo.

Here we are in year 5 of of his mis-admninistration and they have mangaged to spin their way out of everything. I don't see why this should be any different.

25. This prosecutor guy is still asking questions, still investigating...
and from what we have all heard he likes to be thorough (almost to the extreme). When he finishes with everything he's not going to slap some half-assed report or legal brief together. Whatever the outcome... it's going to take time.
