Video-Hitchens hates Hillary: Thinks funding DHS is a waste of time
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/07/08.html#a3825

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D), NEW YORK: But the fact is, the president's budget calls for a $50 million cut in what we appropriated last year. Last year, although Chuck and I wanted more money and the Senate unanimously passed a bill for $570 million, we got $150 million out of the Congress.

SCARBOROUGH: Mr. Hitchens, is Senator Clinton correct?
HITCHENS: I have no idea. My presumption would be that she's just fooling with the numbers. But that's just because I don't like her and can't stand the sight of her. It's look..

1. Take this from whence it comes...
Hitchens is an alcohol-soaked enibriate whose hatered for Hillary is only outmatched by his own self-loathing. He's a complete and utter a-hole.

6. Nope, I'm a progressive
I believe in issues, not parties. I've asked the question and been told that being a Democrat is not a prerequisite. I actually used to be on a local DCC - I resigned the second time Clinton was nominated as I felt he was too conservative (still do) and let the country after Shrub was elected the first time. I'm in Canada now where Clinton and Kerry would have both been in the 'Conservative' party.

7. Sorry, my mistake... Progressive....
I thought Clinton was too conservative on social issues -- I was especially disappointed in his Welfare to Work Program. So, I get what you're saying.

But, what is it you do like about Hitchens? I just think he's horrible. Is it just that he was so anti-Clinton? Or is it something else? Do you mind saying? I'm just curious.

9. No, I don't know where Hitchins love for Bush came from
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 04:21 PM by justinsb
but pre 9/11 he was very progressive and well informed. I don't know if Rove has kidnapped one of his children or if he lost a relative on 9/11 or what, but he's written very eloquently in the past on international social and economic issues. I'm still hoping he snaps out of it, whatever "it" is, but I'd still rather have him as a dinner guest than Hillary - who has never for a moment been on my good list.

10. He wasn't Progressive during the Clinton years...
nor during the 2000 election. He went over to the other side years ago. Up until the early 90's he was a Liberal, and sober. Something happened, and he came out the other end of whatever it was, a bitter Conservative and drunk as a skunk. I remember seeing a Dennis Whats-his-name Show (the guy who was Liberal then, and has decided he's Conservative now...) on hbo where he came on so drunk he could barely walk or talk. I thought to myself how sad it was that he ended up this way.

Well, I guess, to each his own. I'm glad you like him. At least someone does.

11. Clinton was and Hillary still is tooo conservative for me...
true about where they'd be in canada....heck, in France Chirac is a conservative. I have an old affinity for Hitch, since his old Nation days. I know he had a falling out over Clinton with alot of the left....but I still like the guy. I don't agree with him on the war, and that's pretty much the only issue he and Bush agree on. Frankly, he seems like someone I'd love to down alot of alcohol with.

2. Can we send him back to Britain or is he a US citizen?

I saw him on TV while channel surfing last night and I immediately changed the channel. He looks awful and what comes out of his mouth is even worse. I can't even begin to comment about Scarborough. :(

12. Hitchens was an intellectual leftist until 911 Attack.
His views have changed. He is sometimes not easy to understand because of the complex views that he holds. I don't have any proof that he is a fan of W's or the Bush Regime. He is rabidly against Islamic Extremism. He has been critical of the Bush Regime. He admitts that he loaths Bill and Hiilary and views them as frauds. I agree with him about that. His views are not popular with many but he does speak his mind and backs up his views. I sort of admire that even when I disagree with him.

14. Yes, I remember many debates
Where the GOP attacked, Dem. "leaders" cowered and Hitchins and Hightower were the only ones really willing to shoot back. Chomsky is always good, but Hitchins would yell, while Chomsky wrote a paper with extensive footnotes.
