I've been published!
My LTTE was published in today's Boston Globe: (slightly edited)

The letter I referenced has already been archived, an, not being a subscriber for the time being, I cannot access it. It begins this way:

IN "SENATORS won't rule out filibuster" (Page A1, July 4), Susan Milligan makes several interesting choices of words. Conservatives are said to be "clamoring for a justice that represents their values." Some of those are enumerated as being "antiabortion, opposed to gay marriage, and in favor of religious expression in public places." But in the parallel spot in the next sentence, those nominees who may think that way are described as "ultraright." Is that the same as archconservative? Will we be seeing Senator Kennedy et alia described as ultraleft or archliberal?

It goes on to point out that the nominations of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer were confirmed by large margins and asked if the liberals will extend the same coutesy.

My published letter:

It was edited...for example, I pointed out that Orrin Hatch actually suggested the names of Ginsburg and Breyer. I was a little more snide to answer the snide letter from the good Rev., and that was edited out, but the gist is still there.

8. Congratulations! It's a nice letter, even edited.

I think editors feel compelled to edit whether necessary or not.
