Do you all think The Chris Matthews Show is worthless?
All you have is a bunch of journalists giving their opinions on stuff that they only half-ass know a little bit about. I trust my own judgement on issues more than I do, say Michael Duffy or Andrea Mitchell. These guys were sniffing around Monica's undies, or swimming with sharks and Gary Condit, while every major event in the world was beginning to develop.

You know what, I read several papers, several websites, not to mention all kinds of different articles, even books, all on a regular basis. I don't think Tweety or his guests are going to be able to delve into anything more than that. I never have learned anything new from them, and I watch the show every Sunday.

I learn more from being on DU for ten minutes then I ever do from all of Tweety's show combined.

I think I watch it because I'm a masochist.

Tell me something I don't know? You suck and you're annoying, so there you go, Chris.

Hit political acuman is usually off the mark. Sometimes, he comes up with some interesting angles, but they usually don't pan out.

6. I only watch it on Sunday, mainly to hear guests talk about policy
Like Russert and Stephanapoulos usually have interesting guests. A lot of time it works so I can say to somebody: "Did you hear what so and so actually said on MTP?"

I started up on all of it when I was an opinions columnist, give me an overview of stuff I can make an opinion on.

I check out Eschaton, Kos, Digby, Daily Howler, NewsHounds, Liberal Oasis Daou, Juan Cole Media Matters and others--between them, they cover everything.

Nevertheless i catch the repeat in the middle of the night sometimes (guess I'm a masochist too!) and my internet sources have not misled me on content so far.

Cheers for all of you!

He's a bloviator supreme... He thinks talking loud and fast = intelligent. Mostly, he comes off like a jerk without a clue.

His show is a grand expression of him in every way. I stopped watching a long time ago.

11. You do watch it because of masochism.
Cable news gives you nothing. You give them your time, lots of time. They sell access to your time to make more money, and make more cable "news".

Cold turkey, dude, cold turkey is the way to go. Just turn off the CNN, the MSNBC, the FOX, the CNBC. If someone throws a pie in Russert's face on Sunday morning, surely someone will post it on the web. If something important actually happens, the networks do in fact break into programming from time to time. You can always get CBS radio news or another such thing at the top of the hour, and the hurricane pictures will be shown on the evening news.

Don't feed the bird.

14. I wish it were worthless. But it's worse. It's damaging.
Starting with that first Bush election, Matthews did his share to destroy the Democrats and help the Bush era come in. I'll never forget how he was such a Bush sycophant in the first election and how he later admitted he voted for Bush.

Matthews is a son of a bitch and I hope he suffers the same media fate as Novak has with his shows.

In fact, ever since I've discovered so many "alternative" channels, I rarely/don't watch MSNBC or CNN these days. My gag reflex can't take it.

And as you said, you can get more info in ten minutes here at DU, than if you watched them for a 24 hour time span!

23. Big mistake in calling any of them "Journalists"
My daughter, spouse and teenage granddaughter are teachers and student in an International school in Moscow. They not only are teachers who work with students from 56 other Nations whose parents work for corporations or Embassies in Moscow but they also socially interact with them. The school program includes various student/teacher trips during the school year and is considered an important part of the International learning process.

They are able to come home for the Christmas and summer breaks and when my daughter who is an English/Theatre Arts high school teacher turns on our news(?), she goes absolutely ballistic. In her words, "What a bunch of crap!" She said that they get better news/information from the European, Asian, ME, etc., stations in Moscow than they do here in the US. As an English teacher and Theatre Arts instructor she is stunned at what the so called "NEWS"/ Infotainment, on the major channels are passed off as actual journalism and honest news reporting.

has the intellect to see the DIFFERENCE. Of course, you must be commended for your role in her awareness!

Would that we had more of the younger generation following in her footsteps! I fear that THEY are in for such a RUDE awakening!!

Being a Boomer, I too have passed my views onto my 2 children. Unlike "Tweety" who has descended into the dark dank tunnel of the repressed, I have NOT forgotten why The Fourth Estate game into being.

As I walk around from time to time, a mantra sounds in my brain.... We are Doomed! That of course is UNLESS we learn from the past!!

I just listened to a great singer/song-writer from the Virgin Islands who wrote a song called "Quicksand". Sort of Reggae/Rock, I can only HOPE that it will catch on and become OUR future!!!

18. But they're "journalists"

They talk. These days that is disconnected from actually knowing anything, let alone having achieved any wisdom. They have consultants that tell them what they 'know', i.e. can say. And Beltway consultants are not exactly ahead of the curve on events or analysis, obviously, and painfully aware of it by now. That's why 'inside' information and gossip is so emphasized these days- it's what Beltway chattering class people have that is still marketable.

Tweety is a moderate Democrat, of the sort that was politically tossed aside in 2000 and 2002 and forever stuck in a mindset of the Golden Era of that political positioning, 1994 to 2001.

His voice, to me, is intolerable. It's pitch and volume always feel like just centimeters this side of sending me into an epileptic seizure. I've never made it past 10 minutes or so before I've had to change the channel. The man is seriously annoying...I don't think he's capable of having a conversation that can't be heard in Guam.

37. The Chris Matthews Show isn't on cable.
It's on NBC, at least here in Central Texas.

Hardball, on the other hand, is on cable.

I think some of you are thinking the question was about Hardball.

That said, I quit watching the Sunday Chris Matthews Show a few weeks ago.

I kept watching it, hoping for some insight, but mostly his panel is less well-informed than the average DUer.

There's a whole lot of conventional wisdom there that passes for incisive opinion.

I have no respect for Matthews himself, and his panelists are too predictable to spend any time with them.
