CNN video censored at Guantanamo prison
http://www.sciencedaily.com/upi/?feed=TopNews&article=UPI-1-20050707-09270600-bc-us-guantanamo.xml

In response to allegations of prisoner abuse at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba, Bush made the challenge in June, and again Wednesday while in Denmark.

However, a CNN crew that toured the facility was not allowed to see the worst-behaved inmates, who are kept in a block behind a mesh fence.

<...>

CNN employees were not allowed to speak to the prisoners, and military censors demanded the crew erase video footage they said would allow viewers to identify a prisoner.

In the hospital wing, one prisoner shouted in English, "We take the torture in here," but it was not possible to talk to the prisoner about his allegation, the network said.

2. Related: Guantanamo Commanding Officer Relieved

Capt. Leslie J. McCoy, who had commanded Guantanamo since March 2003, was the subject of an investigation into inappropriate personnel and administrative practices unrelated to the base's detention camp for suspected terrorists.

"His release and reassignment are in no way related to the detainee operations taking place in Guantanamo," said C. Patrick Dooling, spokesman for Navy Southeast Region based in Jacksonville.

Dooling would not elaborate on the allegations against the officer.

McCoy was relieved of his duties Saturday by Rear Adm. Annette E. Brown, the region commander, who had "lost confidence in his ability to effectively lead," Dooling said.

3. I heard a CNN "tourist" talk about this on AAR last week.
Wish I could remember her name or what show.
At any rate, they weren't even allowed to see the actual living conditions of the prisoners. They were steered toward a mock-up of a prisoner cell (about the size of a horse's stall, she said) with some examples of the "privisions" neatly lined up. It was like walking through a museum exhibit, per the reporter.
