Why did Matt Cooper drop his lawyer and enlist Ted Olsen ? |
|
Isn't this the same guy that was the Solicitor-General under Bush and also the same guy that represented George W Bush when he took his case to the Supreme Court after the 2000 election? Why Ted Olsen?

Maybe the "dramatic contact" Cooper refered to resulted in him promising the Bush administration that he wouldn't reveal some damning information, in exchange for having his legal problems "fixed?"
And maybe Miller wouldn't make the same agreement, which is why she's now muzzled in jail?

4. ted olsen is the lawyer for repugs in trouble |
|
he was in middle of the 2000 election too. sounds like cooper is firmly in the repug camp and repug see this as another battle. not a reporter individually, but within group to use olsen.

he did it because Olson had connections to the court and his case would be viewed more favorably. Also I don't think he wanted to continue to be lumped in with JM, and when they went before the SC, Olson argued a different case than Abrams did. Abrams was arguing absolutism regarding confidentiality for reporters and Olson did not.

10. Weren't both Olson and Abrams defending Time/Cooper but Olson |
|
was the one who argued the case before the Supremes (since he has so much experience arguing before the Supremes and is in so thick with the Bushies). I don't see this as Cooper replacing Abrams with Olson, but I must have missed reading it here. It's hard to keep up with it all. Especially since I'm so negative that anything is going to come out of this that exposes any Bushie or gets them fired. I must have missed the Abrams firing.

lawyer and that Cooper had the better chance against the Supremes because his lawyer (Olson) had a different argument than Abrams. At the hearing before Hogan Bennett and Abrams were there for JM and Cooper had his own attorney. But I will look around and see if I find anything different than that.

Olson being a Federalist Society fixer, his participation is very sinister. Very sinister. Having him for a lawyer is carrying a snake in one's bosom.

...I gotta say that Cooper looked like a very frightened man the other day. He kept repeating "I HAVE kept my word to the source. I HAVE kept my pledge."
