RawStory: RNC Talking Points from Mehlman re: Rove
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/RNC_RESPONDS_ON_ROVE_PARTISAN_POLITICAL_ATT_0712.html

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman has issued a statement, acquired by RAW STORY, saying questions about Rove's role in leaking the name of a CIA agent are part of a 'partisan attack.'

The following is a release, along with RNC research they believe supports their position.
#

"It's disappointing that once again, so many Democrat leaders are taking their political cues from the far-left, Moveon wing of the party. The bottom line is Karl Rove was discouraging a reporter from writing a false story based on a false premise and the Democrats are engaging in blatant partisan political attacks." -RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman

More at the link.

Rush was blaming this on a partisan attack today on his show (along with some other stuff)

1. This talking point fails.
They can use the talking point all the want to death, but one undisputable fact remains. Rove did something, and it's gotten himself into a bowl of hot trouble along with his cronies and his puppets.

5. If you read through the list of articles/citations...
you find a lot of reports produced by Republicans or articles with some guesswork in them or just flat-out reaching on their conclusions. And then there's the whole red-herring issue of linking Wilson to Kerry's '04 campaign.

3. A false story on a false premise--like the Smear Boat Liars???
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 01:31 PM by rocknation
You Rethugs should certainly know a false story on a false premise when you see one.

But Karl did was "discourag(e) a reporter from writing a false story based on a false premise," then why didn't say so two years ago? Why didn't he simply stand up and say, "My bad"? Because he knew he wasn't supposed to have the information about Plame in the first place? Remember, Karl, you weren't a hoity-toity muckety-muck Bush cabinet official then, just an advisor. If you knew about Plame, it's because someone told you--in order for you to tell the press.

6. Karl and RNC conveniently forget that the "16 Words" were false
as they make up lies about Wilson.

9. "Democrat leaders"?
I just love the way they arbitrarily decided that we are no longer the Democratic Party but the Democrat Party. You can only do that to somebody too weak to protest.

I think Mehlman would look great in orange.

11. I agree with you
I notice the use of "Democrat Party" all the time now and it's like fingernails on a blackboard to me. Sorry, many of you probably don't remember blackboards.

But they certainly are consistent with it.

12. Gee, I read all those talking points that supposedly prove
That Wilson lied that he was sent by Cheney. Except he never said it. He said he was sent by the CIA who wanted to brief Cheney about the yellowcake. After he gave them his verbal report, he had nothing more to do with it. Evidently, he thought they told Cheney. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't, but that's what he was told.

They're desperate. You should see FRetard City today. They're screaming that Wilson is a convicted liar and a Clintonista (in fact, he worked under the elder Bush and Clinton) and blah blah blah. This one is going to take down a good chunk of the administration before it's over. And they know it.

14. From what I heard on npr this morning
from some girl on the right wing payroll is that Valerie Plame had nothing but a desk job anyway. She wasn't undercover. Which I'm sure is a bunch of bullcrap. I think they will try to spin it like that.
