Dems' ads rap Taylor ties

But congressman calls message about fraud investigations a rehash of old distortions

JIM MORRILL

Staff Writer

Trying to capitalize on public concern over congressional ethics, Democrats are running ads questioning Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor's involvement with two men convicted of bank fraud and his business partnership with an ex-KGB general.

Taylor, of Brevard, is one of six Republican House members targeted by national Democrats in an effort to make ethics a central issue in next year's elections.

The ads ran last week in newspapers in Asheville and elsewhere in the 11th district. To Taylor, they "rehash the same old distortions."
