Did Dems "Pick Their Battle" with Rove? |
|
It's one of the great tenets in life - pick your battles.
As one who has often bitched about the lack of spine shown by Dems in attacking what I saw as obvious attack points, I'm wondering if top Dems knew this Rove thing was coming down and put the brakes on fighting skirmishes. Granted, anything the Dems do anytime is going to be spun as "partisan witch hunting" by the RW, but to a general public which is usually disengaged, such a defense may seem trifling, especially when national security and treason are the issues.
So, did Harry Reid & Co. plan for this moment to make maximum effect, or did they just luck out that the MSM is suddenly interested in facts that we at DU have known for a couple of years?

1. I think neither. The only reason this has "legs" is because |
|
Its a criminal investigation, which is less impacted by media spin than actions of congress critters.
Also, the pattern of dems tell the truth, repubs whine and demand an apology, and then dems capitulate is broken in this case because dems aren't really fronting the investigation, so demanding they apologize looks weak even to freepers.

Would be nice if the DNC picked a battle over the memos...maybe it will come next. I think the MSM felt a bit slapped in the face by the WMD talk. Took a lot of heat for that and being lumped in with Fox News. The White House press corps is owed a thank you for running with Plamegate, more than the DNC I think. They really dictate what is discussed in Washington and this is finally getting some attention. Imagine if the MSM caused this much fuss over the Downing memo's?
