Clinton Global Initiative in NYC Sept 15-17th
Hey, this sounds pretty good...and my favorite General is on one of the advisory boards. :)

The Clinton Global Initiative to Convene September 15-17th in New York City CGI to Identify Global Problems; President Clinton Pledges to Hold World and Business Leaders Accountable for Promises Made at CGI

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Leaders from around the world are greatly supporting President Clinton's first annual gathering of leaders known as the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). CGI's goal is to address global challenges in four areas: poverty, religion, climate change and governance. The event will take place September 15-17 in New York City. This nonpartisan conference will concentrate a diverse and select group of current and former heads of state, business leaders, noteworthy members of the academic community, and representatives of key non-governmental organizations to identify immediate and pragmatic solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems.

"Holding participants accountable for the help they pledge is the best way to ensure that real change is happening throughout the world," President Clinton said.

(snip)

President Clinton has created the CGI to address some of the most historically intractable problems affecting our world. The two-day Initiative will focus on four themes: how to reduce poverty; using religion as a force for reconciliation and conflict resolution; implementing new business strategies and technologies to combat climate change; and strengthening governance. Some members of the four advisory boards comprised of experts in the topic areas include: General Wesley Clark, Pierre Omidyar, Jeffrey Sachs, Robert Rubin, Howard Shultz, George Soros, Edgar Bronfman Sr., President Leonel Fernandez Reyna, Congressman Jim Kolbe, former President Ernesto Zedillo, Senator Barack Obama and Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

1. This looks more like a personnal promotion than anything else.

and I am shocked at the people he is inviting. It seems more important to invite people who can show he is still important than people who care about the issues his fundation is supposed to care about.

Why did he invite people like Schwartzenegger or Chirac, who could not care less about the goals expressed, rather than people who have devoted their life to the issue (there are in all continent).

I have the same feeling when it comes to the list of people in the advisory board. Compared to what Carter has done and is still doing, this is extremely disappointing and it looks a lot like promoting Clinton more than anything else.

4. I don't really have time right now to look around the site

but I only see the lists of people who are attending, etc...not those who were invited. Where does it say who was invited? Thanks!

No doubt, though, you're right about Clinton wanting to promote Clinton...but I hope something constructive is accomplished nonetheless.

5. Still can't find a list of invitees....
...but I do think it's pretty cool that Gen Clark is on the Climate Change advisory board. At least someone's noticed his concern for the environment.
