Wikipedia entry on Karl Rove.
Karl Christian Rove (born December 25, 1950 in Denver, Colorado) is an American political consultant, and (as of 2005) U.S. President George W. Bush's senior advisor and chief political strategist. On February 8, 2005, Rove was appointed deputy chief of staff in charge of policy.

After dropping out of the University of Utah, Karl Rove began his political career with the College Republicans, which he chaired from 1973 to 1974. For the next few years, he worked in various Republican Party circles and assisted George H. W. Bush's 1980 vice-presidential campaign. He currently works as an advisor to President George W. Bush, and has run into controversy regarding the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's name and the subsequent (and ongoing) investigation by Independent Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald.

<snip>

In 1970, at the age of nineteen and while a protege of Donald Segretti (later convicted as a Watergate conspirator), Rove sneaked into the campaign office of Illinois Democrat Alan Dixon and stole some letterhead, which he used to print fake campaign rally fliers promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing," and distributed them at rock concerts and homeless shelters. Admitting to the incident much later, Rove said, "I was nineteen and I got involved in a political prank." (The Nation).
<snip>

In 1986, just before a crucial debate in the election for governor of Texas, Karl Rove announced that his office had been bugged by the Democrats. There was no evidence for this, and it was later discovered that he had bugged his own phone to garner media coverage. <3>

Interesting. This article definitely creates the idea that Rove has a history of doing unscrupulous and illegal things. There is a lot about his involvement in the CIA leak on this too.

1. The media doesn't mention his firing from Bush 1's campaign for
leaking information. I believe that is very relevant information that should be shared.

3. Brilliantly evil. Kyra Phillips today (CNN) stated that "there's a
smear campaign going on..." against ROVE! He, the Machiavellian Prince of political smears and dirty tricks so filthy that the normal decent human mind cannot even begin to comprehend them, HE is being smeared??? Phillips, as an objective reporter should be fired from CNN.

5. Ron Suskind on Rove is always worth re-reading too

Why Are These Men Laughing?
Esquire, January 2003.

<snip>

Inside, Rove was talking to an aide about some political stratagem in some state that had gone awry and a political operative who had displeased him. I paid it no mind and reviewed a jotted list of questions I hoped to ask. But after a moment, it was like ignoring a tornado flinging parked cars. "We will fuck him. Do you hear me? We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!" As a reporter, you get around—curse words, anger, passionate intensity are not notable events—but the ferocity, the bellicosity, the violent imputations were, well, shocking. This went on without a break for a minute or two. Then the aide slipped out looking a bit ashen, and Rove, his face ruddy from the exertions of the past few moments, looked at me and smiled a gentle, Clarence-the-Angel smile. "Come on in." And I did. And we had the most amiable chat for a half hour.

9. The level of arrogance is breathtaking. I think the doc who wrote
"Bush on the Couch" should write the same book on Rove. He thinks of himself as so above everybody else it is mind boggling. Rules and laws only apply to others. He is among the superior beings that lets the rest of us know what and how we are to obey. Society is there to advance himself and those he supports. We had better stay in line or else.

6. two questions
"After dropping out of the University of Utah, Karl Rove began his political career with the College Republicans, which he chaired from 1973 to 1974."

how did he begin a career with the College Republicans after dropping out of college?

"In 1986, just before a crucial debate in the election for governor of Texas, Karl Rove announced that his office had been bugged by the Democrats. There was no evidence for this, and it was later discovered that he had bugged his own phone to garner media coverage."

I've read about this before ... why was he not charged with a crime for this? e.g. filing a false police report ... a runaway bride claims to have been kidnapped and can be punished for filing a false police report, but Karl Rove can claim to have had his office bugged in order to steal a statewide election and he furthers his career as a result??

also, how sickening is it that he was born on December 25 and has "Christian" as his middle name? ... I'm surprised the Christofascists don't play this up more

10. It was explained in the movie "Bush's Brain"
which I strongly recommend you to rent.

Apparently the sheriff who did the investigation for the alleged "mic planting" was a good ol' pal of Karl who had done some dirty jobs for Rove in the past (and who later on kept doing assignments for him).

The investigation was closed quickly and dismissed, and the press was told "nothing to see here, move along."

That's how he got away with filing a false police report.
