Ken Mehlman: "The angry left is trying to smear Rove"
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8557461/

"The angry left is trying to smear" Rove, RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, a Rove protege, said in an interview.

The emerging GOP strategy -- devised by Mehlman and other Rove loyalists outside of the White House -- is to try to undermine those Democrats calling for Rove's ouster, play down Rove's role and wait for President Bush's forthcoming Supreme Court selection to drown out the controversy, according to several high-level Republicans.

Mehlman, who said he talked with Rove several times in recent days, instructed GOP legislators, lobbyists and state officials to accuse Democrats of dirty politics and argue Rove was guilty of nothing more than discouraging a reporter from writing an inaccurate story, according to RNC talking points circulated yesterday.

"Republicans should stop holding back and go on the offense: fire enough bullets the other way until the Supreme Court overtakes" events, said Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.).

1. They have to go on offense because what Rove did
is utterly indefensible.

2. The Angry Left Is Trying To Evict Rove
and all his fellow travelers out of positions of power. Rove smears himself just fine without anyone's assistance.

3. Anyone on the Right with even the slightest sense of ethics
(not to mention genuine patriotism) should be angry at what Rove has done, too.

If they're out there, they're not speaking up loud enough to be heard.

... swimming toward the sinking ship. :)

5. Nobody has to "try" to smear Rove--he's doing it on his own!
Rethug "morality": telling the truth is a "smear."

6. Fine, we ARE trying to smear Rove, we're left, AND WE'RE ANGRY!
Now, Uncle Howard needs to rebut with "The criminal Right was trying to get Valerie Plame (and possibly other ops) killed."

7. Newt Gingrich just went down the list of Talking Points on NBC's Today!!
:puke:

He literally was touching on every major point in that memo including the support of Kerry's campaign (like that has anything to do with the price of eggs in Denmark)

11. Gingrich wants to be "President Gingrich" in 2008.
If he doesn't service Rove now, he won't have a campaign manager.

Of course, that's assuming that Rove gives up his dream ticket of Frist-Giuliani (or McCain-Giuliani, Jeb-Giuliani, whatever)...

"Thank GOD George Bush is our president!"

:puke:

8. Family of people who disagree with them are "fair game". But when
they're caught destroying the lifes of their political opponents and called on it, that's dirty politics. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. In Terd Blossom's world Democrats whould be going after Laura and the twins. Even if it endangered them. He is sick.

Sound good?

10. Excellent headline, goes great with the photo I picked.
If the GOP has gotten to the point where their "best defense" is Ken Mehlman condemning us for being "angry," how sad is that?

15. No, Ken, the angry Left is TRYING to get to the TRUTH.
A smear would be more along the lines of telling everyone that Ken Mehlman is gay.

16. Anyone who thinks Dean needs to "tone down" his
rhetoric, or capitulate his attitude, with regards to the Republicans, should read this and understand they are WRONG.

Dean is doing great! As a matter of fact, he could/should get even stronger and more belliocose, imo!

Mehlman is a pit bull... we need to let Howard off his leash, and let these two go, mano a mano, as much as possible. Dean will win every time. And, when Dean wins, we Democrats win.

Just an opinion!

17. The DNC Executive Committee supports Dean and his fighting spirit
They told him not to be wimp, like the spineless Dems who criticized him are.

Dean's current statement on Rove
<SNIP>
"Karl Rove and his high priced lawyers might disagree, but the truth is Rove betrayed the identity of an undercover officer fighting on the front lines in the war on terror. These actions are particularly egregious in a time of war," said Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. "President Bush should demonstrate his commitment to the war on terror by holding his own people accountable. It is disturbing that this high ranking Bush Advisor is not only still working in the White House, but now has a significant role in setting our National Security policy."
<SNIP>

is VERY VERY strong and is a salvo aimed atBush's only poll strength left -- Bush's handling of the war on terror.

No wonder Rove is trying to divide the Dems or at least blame Dems like Dean for Rove's problems.
