I am for putting a Senator or at least a qualified
elected official on the Supreme Court.

This quote from Senator Spector (God that man has a pretty good brain)in this mornings NYT is one that Bush should take to hart (fat chance I know, but one can dream).

"In making his case for a nominee who was not on the bench, Mr. Specter argued that longtime judges could hold too narrow a view, particularly when ruling on "cutting edge questions" of the sort that have recently put courts at odds with Congress.

"If they had a little more practical experience and didn't work so much within the footnotes and the semicolons, you might have a little different perspective," he said. "And I'd like to see that added to the court." :dem:

3. Tommy Thompson??
If we have to go with a Republican he seems like a benign type to me.

I also have always liked Orin Hatch, or perhaps Linsay Graham.

Other thoughts or suggestions.

Remember we are going to end up with something of a conservative the trick is to get one who will do the least damage, sad but the way it is.

6. Actualy I would not mind Spector
except that he is to old and of poor health.

However a Spector type would be quite acceptable to me.

Maybe Dewine from Ohio or former GOv Jim Thompson from Illinois.

9. I think Graham is a JAG attorney...
I don't know if he ever practiced civil law. Check his website to be sure.

Specter is probably too old/sick/moderate.

2. There are plenty of wingnut Senators to choose from...
say, like, Rick man-on-dog. OK, if that doesn't make you want to :puke: , nothing will.

10. Would have to be from the Judiciary Committee, right?
If it were to be a sitting senator, that is. Here's the list of members...thoughts?

Specter, Arlen (PA) , Chairman probably too old/sick/moderate
Hatch, Orrin (UT) no thanks
Grassley, Charles (IA)
Kyl, Jon (AZ)
DeWine, Mike (OH)
Sessions, Jeff (AL)
Graham, Lindsey (SC) has possibilities, is he too young?
Cornyn, John (TX) he was a judge, so he's out
Brownback, Samuel (KS) that might be worse than Rick Santorum
Coburn, Tom (OK) not after his recent Schiavo comments

Leahy, Patrick (VT), Ranking Member wouldn't happen
Kennedy, Edward (MA) great for Dems but it would NEVER happen
Biden, Joseph (DE) he'd love it, I wouldn't
Kohl, Herb (WI)
Feinstein, Dianne (CA) she should be middle of the line enough
Feingold, Russ (WI) another never going to happen
Schumer, Charles (NY) another than would never happen
Durbin, Richard (IL)

11. What about a Ex-Governor
Jim Thompson or Jim Edger from Illinois or the Ex-Governor from Missouri (and no I do not mean Asscroft).

Keane from New Jersey perhaps.

That kind of GOP type.

Or even Pataki from NY or Rudi.

Thoughts???
