The Ministry of Truth's Boldest Moves Yet
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 01:32 PM by Ian_rd
In George Orwell's Oceania, the Ministry of Truth relied on the intellectual laziness and lack of memory of the citizens in order to change history in their minds and keep the public docile and obedient.

Our very own Ministry of Truth (MoT) has recently done the following:

1. Upon the discovery of Deep Throat as Mark Felt, the MoT tried to turn Felt into a traitor and the Watergate burglars into patriotic victims. Although this can be considered a failure, the MoT probably attempted it because Watergate is such an old issue that they expected to succeed in rewriting the record.

2. The MoT changed several times the rationale to invade Iraq. These changes succeeded because they were incremental and not absolute contradictions from one to the next.

Now the MoT is attempting a clearly obvious rewriting of history with the Rove/Plame affair. In 2003, Wilson exposed a lie (or at the very least, a critical mistake) in Bush's rationale for war and his wife's role in the CIA was exposed in retaliation. It was flatly stated by the White House that Rove was not involved, and Bush pledged more than once to fire anyone discovered to be involved.

Now, in 2005, after Rove has been identified as the leaker, the rewriting has begun: Wilson is the liar, not Bush. and The leak was a heroic act, perhaps deserving of a medal!

This is not Watergate, this issue is less than two years old. Why would the MoT make such a blatant attempt at revising history in danger of exposing their tactics to their subjects? Why? Because Karl Rove is non other than Big Brother.

If this were someone other than Rove, they would be fired, and turned into a Liberal by the MoT. But this is not someone else, it's Rove. Rove IS the MoT, and the MoT is Rove. And the MoT will do absolutely anything to protect itself and its leader - pull out all the stops, make the most insane of claims, release the talking points, assemble the troops (Fox News, WSJ, Drudge, AM Radio, the right-wing think-tanks, and half of the rest of the Mainstream Media) to pound the new reality into the pliant brains of their followers.

I fear it will have a measure of success. Expect your Republican friends to begin defending the "whistle blower" Karl Rove, and railing against Joe Wilson's horrible lies. A pledge to fire anyone involved? Bush never said that, you stupid Liberal! You're just making it up as you go along!

Paraphrasing 1984: "...everything was all right, the struggle was finished. The American People had won the victory over themselves. They loved Big Brother!"

So, have another glass of Victory Gin, patriots, and may God bless America!

2. Yup
Excellent post.

You know, how can we use the trusism that they will do anything to protect Rove against them? We must be able to use that angle in some way to trip them up...

5. I'd suggest that Kuttner's editorial in the Boston Globe, today, ...

.... is a rather stunnnig reminder that today is July 13, 2005; not July 13, 1984, and Rove is going down along with his Ministry of Lies:

We are here to make certain that that is the outcome.

p.s. I've recommended your neat OP, and welcome to DU.

Peace.

6. This has worked so well for them in the past,
why not try it?

I mean, if they can turn Kerry's wartime active duty against him, while Bush went AWOL why not give it a try? And on and on.

Lying, sorry sacks of excrement that they are.

10. But on the bright side of things...
BushCo has announced that choco-rations may be increased by as much as 2 mg. per quarter per citizen/consumer unit next year, if voters will only support Permanent Tax Cuts for the Wealthy.

And always remember, Big BushCo really does love you.

12. :)
Thanks for the response everyone! And remember, "we must continue to fight the terrorists over there, so we don't need to fight them here." When Bush said that he always meant Iraq and Britain! And when L.A. gets attacked, he meant L.A. too!

:loveya: -> Big Brother
