Jon Stewart schools Bernard Goldberg-VIDEO
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/07/13.html#a3919
Bernie appeared trying to pimp his new book "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America." Stewart easily pointed out the meaninglessness of it ( of course most are liberals in the book ) by stating the obvious. If he was so serious in casting a magnifing glass on the problems of the country he should look to DC where the real power is.

6. Thanks, Coltrane!
I like this comment on the blog..

"Goldberg's arguments were shallow and empty that fell on deaf ears because they make no sense and Stewart would have none of it. I could tell that Jon was an inch away of doing a "Crossfire" on his ass."

goldberg was like a disingenous freakin' creep.

he "really hated to put Barbra Steisand in his book".

7. John changed the set. I think that is significant. Before, he was
sitting in Craig ?'s vision. Now he has his own, he has pull and he's even more confident that he can do what he has to. Way to go, John.

8. That was an awesome interview!
Now if only we could replace the wimpy Dems on the Cable "news" Channels with guys like Jon, a little guy with a fist full of Emmy Awards.

Jon, that is. :D

That was a great interview. He says they are the fake news, but he hammered ole Bernie like a seasoned pro. Thank God for TDS!!!

13. Goldberg is usingtypical RW crap...
Using a crappy "LW Culture" (ie Media) boogeyman to slap attention away from the true problem.

His "Bigot Channel" was a complete strawman and his rip on Chevy Chase for his comments against the "Greatest president in the world" were simply idiotic.

14. It was a great interview
but Jon did miss a chance to help Chase, I would have come back that Cheney used the "F" word on the Senate floor, wouldn't that have been worse then using it at the Kennedy center?

18. Either Jon was biting his tongue or
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:44 AM by YOY
he simply missed it (In which case I am sure regreted it later.)

The comparison to a goofy comic who is famous for his pratfalls and playing the dumbf*** himself to a senior politician who should know better would have been just too good.

Then again I think the idea that it happened in the Kennedy Center was just horrible to Goldberg...I believe he mentioned it twice.

One of the reasons Jon may have been so rough on Goldberg would be that they come from similar backgrounds. It is a hell of alot easier to call out someone from the same background as your own.

16. I have to confess
when I this guy was first announced as the guest, I expected it to be another Anti-Democrat getting an opportunity to promote the ideology of hate toward all things Liberal (without interruption). But, Stewart did a masterful job with that interview!

It's not a book I would buy or check out at the local library. When I first heard of it, my only reaction was, "Great. ANOTHER Anti-Democrat, Liberal bashing book." :eyes: It's funny how this guy tries to claim some degree of fairness by putting in one or two extremist anti-Democratic people on the list. It's even funnier how these extremists are held in such high regard and touted as leading examples fighting for 'good' (or maybe 'God'???). They also held real power just as Jon was referring to.

Nice job, Jon! :woohoo:

17. great interview! usually when a guest comes on Jon's show at
the end of an interview Jon will hold up the guests book and say something to the effect " such and such title, available in all bookstores now, go out and get it, good read" or something like that. I noticed that after this interview Jon just quickly put the book on the desk but did not say his book promotional lines...yep the 97 liberals who were singled out in Golberg's trashy prose really didn't sit well for Jon.

21. Did you notice the video at the end?
A photo montage of Jimmy Carter...apparently he's #6 on the list.

Jimmy Carter teaches Sunday School, builds houses for the poor & homeless, is a Nobel laureate, & he's screwing up America?????

The mind reels.

:wtf:

Goldberg lumps Wallace Shawn, Jimmy Carter, and Al Gore together with David Duke, for crying out loud. :grr:

27. Yeah, I like how The Daily Show subtly pointed that out
Video clips of Jimmy Carter doing the Habitat for Humanity thing, w/ a "#6" in the upper-left of the TV screen.

It seems the crew were definitely ready to tee-up Goldberg.

One of the best segments ever.

22. I laughed so hard at this jerk trying to go head to head with Stewart
This book is no more than kool aid in paper form (fodder for those who can't think for themselves)and Stewart just took a match to it.

26. Goldberg preaches to the choir the previous night's guest (Matt Taibbi)
talked about, when he said he volunteered at a Bush campaign office in Orlando in 2004.

He said all he had to say when talking to potential voters was something like, "Liberals are so evil, they'll snort cocaine right off your Bible!" to get them on board. No fact, no policy, no big ideas -- just slams and slander. And I'll bet they ate it up, because they're ready to believe shit like that in the first place.

That's the same crowd who watches Faux, and is the target audience for Goldberg's book.

Link for that segment is at comedycentral.com on the Daily Show's page.
