Don't get out the party hats yet............
I heard Jeff Greenfield make an interesting point on “Late Edition” last night. He was saying that the Repugnicans will continue to paint this as nothing more than “politics”, specifically partisan politics. If the public can be convinced that that is the issue and not of the fact that Rove has committed a crime, he’s going to walk. He used the example of the Dems. circling the wagons around Bubba during Monica-gate. While that was, in fact, a partisan issue, it was the success of the spin doctors in convincing Joe Public of that fact that got the GOP attack dogs to back off. While I certainly don’t equate Bill’s blowjobs with Rove’s treason, there is a certain truth in Greenfield’s analogy. This troubles me.

3. This story has little to do with politics at this point
they can spin all they want but this isn't going to go away. We are dealing with very serious crimes here included treason.

4. He's right, except the investigation isn't being done by a group
of Dem politicians, but by a Pub appointed Special prosecutor. I'm sure they'll try, but it won't work!

5. More spin from Greenfield. Clinton wasn't indicted by a Grand Jury
and he wasn't prosecuted in the legal system. Clinton's impeachment was the definition of partisan attack.

This is another kettle of fish now. Public opinion means squat. Most people thought it was silly to imprison Martha Stewart for lying to the prosecutors in her case -- but she marched to jail just the same. It's not a popularity contest.

Just think what may be just around the corner:

The United States of America vs. Karl Rove

between lying to conceal a sexual indiscretion and lying to conceal the betrayal of an American agent purely for political revenge--or that there's a difference between partisan politics and espionage.

By the way, welcome to DU!

8. Don't let it
We've got until they announce the nominee to the SC to frame this properly, and it's a program that will run in the background until the work of the special prosecutor is concluded.

It should be framed around "water".

Karl Rove leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent, exposing her network and undermining national security.

Leakgate. Not Rovegate, not Plamegate.

Bush told us he would fire whoever leaked. Bush should now fix the leak in his administration, on behalf of the safety of all Americans. If he can't keep his word, then he's endangering us all.

Or something like that.

13. And we aren't talking about POTUS-rather his top aide.
If this were Bush (although I do think he is comlicit) I don't think he would be indicted. Grenfield's analogy would be more correct. But who knows--I don't want to count chickens before they are hatched.

15. Rove identified an active CIA agent...whether by name or direct ...
implication, (the wife of Wilson), there is no other way to look at this.

All the GOP is doing is trying to use what they so decried in the Clinton 'scandal', legalisitic definitions. The reason for this is simple, confuse the Average American with symantics. Bottom line, Rove outed a covert agent for partisan and vindictive reasons...leaking, is why Bush Sr dumped him in the first place, jr never learned the lesson.

18. it is partisan politics.
it was partisan politics and the politics of self-destruction that led karl Rove to out Valerie Plame for payback.

In doing so, he has put politics above country and has committed treason.

it's really just that simple.

19. Nice Theory, Jeff, but it won't fly
The blowjob jury were **politicians** .... specifically, Senators.

If this gets an indictment, the jury will be citizens bound to render a verdict based on an actual **law**.

Unless Rove (or whoever is indicted) can get a jury like OJ's, public opinion will mean nothing.

Sorry, Jeff .... your reasoning's a bit skewed to the company talking points, non?

23. the GOP attack dogs backed off? When?
Seems like the media blathered on about Clinton's sex life endlessly. Yeah, he shagged an intern and lied about it. Sleazy, but did we have to hear about it to the exclusion of all else? It went on so long that the Capitol Steps had a parody of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" that began "Let's get over the bimbo". OMG, Clinton was the first and only adulterous politician ever to enter the hallowed halls of Washington, DC. :sarcasm:
