Coleman may lead defense of Rove
Kevin Diaz, Star Tribune Washington Bureau Correspondent
July 14, 2005

Master construction

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Republican officials hinted Wednesday that Sen. Norm Coleman could play a leading role in responding to Democrats' attacks against White House aide Karl Rove.

The Minnesota Republican downplayed a report in the Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, that he has been designated by the Republican National Committee (RNC) to be one of Rove's "principal defenders in Congress."

While he called report "overstated," he added, "as a former prosecutor who knows the law ... I'm certainly willing to respond."

RNC spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt called Coleman "a close ally and friend and one of many Republicans who have come forward and expressed outrage at the blatant partisan politicking that we've seen on the part of the Democrats."

2. EXCELLENT!
Tie as many of these fools to Rove as humanly possible. Once the indictments come down, they will also be indicted politically!

Rove is going to be the proverbial albatross around the necks of Republicans for years to come.

I guess Allen would require too much training, not enough time.

5. The irony is astonishing
A progressive Democratic senator dies in a plane crash under suspicious circumstances, and his Republican successor, whose campaign was orchestrated by the RNC brain bug who is now in a lot of hot water, steps forward to lead the charge of defending the brain bug.

Meanwhile, Paul Wellstone spins in his grave.

9. What a tool
Every time I think Lick-Spittle Normy can't possibly go any lower, he finds a way to do so. What a disgusting asshat. Every time he opens his mouth he disgraces every Minnesotan with an IQ above room temperature.

10. Just faxed Coleman (and forwarded to Dayton)
Senator Coleman,
If today's Star Tribune article is true, you will be aiding an admitted traitor to our country. Rove has admitted to naming Wilson's wife as a CIA agent. He did name her... she is Mrs. Wilson. Please stop making Minnesota look bad. I will do everything I can to fight against your reelection because I strongly feel you are nothing more than a puppet to the current administration and are not interested in serving the people of Minnesota.

11. They've come up with every illogical lie possible - can Coleman come
up with something new or is he just going to burp those who came before him? He just isn't credible. So bring him on.

12. Bush must really have Coleman by the short hairs
Even Coleman, who is about as imaginitive as a turnip has to realize this is a loser situation for him. Particularly in Minnesota which has had (though fading fast) a tradition of good government. This can only hurt him there for his next election.

13. If you haven't noticed, republicans own the voting machines...
even in Minnesota.

That's why they can pretty well do as they please, without fear of voter retribution.

Please steer clear of the Karl Rove fight.

To:
Sen. Norm Coleman

July 14, 2005

Dear Senitor, As a supporter of you in your last election my hopes are that you would be a centrist voice from our State. The Star Trib reports today that you might be a point man in the CIA Agent ID fiasco in defense of the person accused of the leak. This incident if true, smacks of extreme inside Wash. dirty politics to the extent of a breaching Nat'l Security. We all want the truth uncovered and justice served. Please don't allow them to drag you into this as an advocate.
Minnesota has no dogs in this fight.

Eagan , MN

He got the piss knocked out of him by Galloway, so I guess he's going to be Karl's protector, now.
