"Christian Exodus" Sees Upstate South Carolina As Promised Land
"Christian Exodus" sees Upstate as promised land

Group plans national gathering here, hopes thousands move in to reshape state based on its religious values.

The Greenville News / GreenvilleOnline.com
By Ron Barnett

The Exodus has begun.

It began quietly, in a house with white vinyl siding and a trampoline out back, in a subdivision between Greer and Simpsonville.

That's where Frank Janoski, his wife Tammy, and their four children have come. They left Bethlehem, Pa., to be a part of the Christian exodus.

South Carolina may not be flowing with milk and honey, but it looks like the promised land to the leaders of this group, which hopes to relocate thousands of conservative Christian families like the janoskis from across America to the Palmetto State.

Their aim: to tip the political scales, which they see as already weighted to the right, further in that direction.

Secession "is a valid option," said Janoski, a "state coordinator" for the organization - but he hopes it doesn't come to that.

1. Great! Let's aggregate them all in one small state
it lessens their influence on the rest of the country.

24. Exactly! Let them secede, remove all tax support,
no public school funding, no military protection, no national guard for emergencies, fees for access to the electrical grid and other public utilities, trade and tariff agreements on goods and services, no immigration or emigration waivers, and last but not least...NO VOTING RIGHTS OF ANY KIND IN FEDERAL AND STATE MATTERS.

I think that the more liberal, religiously sane citizens of South Carolina can be convinced to take one for the team and move out of South Carolina so that more and more of these wackos move there, and when a sufficient number of people are in the "promised land," we build a wall around South Carolina!

Hell, we could probably convince the new exodus population of South Carolina to build it themselves on their side of the border with materials we sell them that are guaranteed to keep out the devil.

30. Hey, up here in "blue" Chicagoland
I've seen TWO pickup trucks in the last week with Confederate flags.

I say send them all to this exodus place and let 'em rot.

6. I'm for it
I would love for all these lunatics to have an actual laboratory to conduct their social experiment in. Then we can all see the reality of the pie-in-the-sky paradise they think their ideology would create.

I guarantee that in under 50 years we'd have to reclaim the state because of abject poverty and massive human rights violations, and declare the entire territory a Superfund site.

9. HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!!! That's not very far from here!
I know I live in Ga now, but I used to live in Greenville. I'm sure there will be a small group relocate there...for a while, but it's happened in the past, and they just don't stay.

When I worked there, we had a secretary (a true fundie) who had moved, along with all the people in her church, from Ohio. They stayed for about 2 1/2 years and then moved on to somewhere else. I don't recall where they went. Kentucky or Indiana I think.

The people that I knew in SC were from two groups. Some were very nice, open and honest with you, and decent neighbors and friends, OR they were true hypocrits in every way! Don't drink alcohol because it's the juice of the Devil (but don't look in my trash...there's lots of beer cans in there). Go to Church every Wed and Sun, and then be as mean and nasty to everyone who isn't just like you at all other times. Sex outside of marriage is WRONG and a mortal sin, except the teen pregnancy rate was astronomicaly high!!!

I now live in North Ga., and about 2 hrs from Greenville. I wish they'd choose Alabama or Mississippi. I think they'd be happier there too!

for those of us already there, who aren't fundies, and wouldn't want to stay if it becomes a Fundie republic, I mean, theocracy.

5. Trampoline Injuries- Pediatrics, May 1999 - Top
Too Many Pediatric Trampoline Injuries
Received Aug 10, 1998; accepted Dec 23, 1998.

<snip>

Background. Recent reports note a dramatic increase in the number of pediatric trampoline injuries (PTI) during the past several years. In 1996, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 83 000 patients received treatment for trampoline injuries in US hospital emergency departments (EDs), and that ~75% of these patients were <15 years of age. We sought to review our experience with PTI since our previous report (Pediatrics 1992;89:849), and to determine if the American Academy of Pediatrics' current (Pediatrics 1981;67:438) safety recommendations are adequate.

<snip>

Conclusions. PTI are dramatically increasing in number, and result in considerable childhood morbidity. Most PTI occur on privately owned trampolines. Few, if any, safety recommendations for the trampoline are followed. We support recommendations for a ban on the recreational, school, and competitive pediatric use of trampolines.

27. Cool! Let them secede!
Then that would mean a whole chunk of RW nuts would be out of the voting picture (if you secede from the US, you are no longer recognized as part of it - no voting rights in US elections).

I would encourage them to secede.

Also, if they do, they would lose all protections of the US, too!

So, Let them secede! It'll serve them right (Right?)!
