One would think that John McCain, himself having been on the receiving end of one of Rove's smear campaigns, would demand that Rove be fired. But of course, Bush's favorite doormat is nowhere to be found.

1. McCain will keep his mouth shut until
the noise is so loud to remove Rove. Then he will join in. Must not jeopardize his candidacy

3. McCain's in a bind, ain't he? I've wondered the same thing.
What's a guy to do who plans on running in '08 and needs the neocon and religious right vote, but still act like he's for the rule of law today? It's a toughie.

4. Yes, he's been a dependable lapdog
but you can tell he's not as faithful as the rest of the Bushies. Rather, he'd love to ditch The Master if he could find more sympatico shelter.

5. Don't count on McCain
I gave up on McCain a long time ago. He always seems like a maverick within the GOP ... until it really counts. Then he turns into good little puppy dog and rolls over for Bush.

I can't imagine the fortitude he needed to survive his ordeal in Vietnam, but now he's just a Bush toady.

Don't expect ANYTHING from McCain.

7. Why would he???
Coming from Arizona, I don't understand why so many think that McCain is some kind of hero?

He's not, he like most of the Repukes from Arizona, is nothing more then an opportunist.

So don't count on John to step up and do the right thing, because unless there's something in it for him, he won't.

9. I used to think that McCain would want to even the score
with those guys after what they did to him during 2000 primaries,,,,,

I lost all respect for him a long time ago

10. The Republicans are TERRIFIED of Rove.
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 01:51 PM by Walt Starr
They are more terrified of Rove than they are of losing elections.

12. From former McCain Aide:
Might be the best we'll get:

'..."Karl Rove is a combination of Svengali, Rasputin and the Man Behind the Curtain in this administration," said Marshall Wittmann, senior fellow at the centrist Democratic Progressive Policy Institute, a former aide to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and a member of Bush's father's administration.

"For this president, and for that matter, the Republican Party as a whole, Rove is the master policy maker and master strategist," Wittmann said. "It would be a crippling blow if he had to leave the administration, and that's why he will not leave short of an indictment."...'
