1. Here are the actual lyrics for a quick copy and paste |
|
Day after day alone on the hill, The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still, But nobody wants to know him, They can see that he’s just a fool, And he never gives an answer, But the fool on the hill Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning around.
Well on his way his head in a cloud, The man of a thousand voices talking percetly loud But nobody ever hears him, Or the sound he appears to make, And he never seems to notice, But the fool on the hill . . . Nobody seems to like him They can tell what he wants to do. And he never shows his feelings, But the fool on the hill . . .

4. Did you know this song was written in India about the Maharishi |
|
when the Beatles were among his flock. Of course, Paul and John got over their fascination with the "Holy Man" when they found out he was going after the women while publicly espousing celibacy. I think it was Mia Farrow's sister Prudence ("Dear Prudence") who outed old Maha.
Fool On The Hill refers to someone regarded as a fool who is really the wise man. On Capitol Hill there are several wise men and women who aren't given their due, most prominently John Conyers. But Howard Dean may be the true "Fool on the Hill".

14. I believe you're thinking of Lennon's Sexy Sadie. |
|
In an old Lennon interview with Penthouse he said that he wrote Sexy Sadie about the Maharishi.

15. Sexy Sadie was indeed originally entitled "Maharishi" and written |
|
by John Lennon after returning from India. Paul McCartney wrote Fool On The Hill while in India and still under the thrall of the self-styled guru.
That's at least two Beatle songs about old Maharishi Mahesh Yogi -- and there may be others.

5. The fools on the hill... |
|
Dubya:
"Day after day alone on the hill, The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still, But nobody wants to know him, They can see that he’s just a fool, And he never gives an answer, But the fool on the hill Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning around."
True patriots who have followed principle and expressed dissent, ie like the Founding Fathers, in theory at least:
"Well on his way his head in a cloud, The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud But nobody ever hears him, Or the sound he appears to make, And he never seems to notice,
Rove:
But the fool on the hill . . . Nobody seems to like him They can tell what he wants to do. And he never shows his feelings, But the fool on the hill . . ."

3. Very appropriate for the times |
|
Looks like Lennon may have been prophetic too. I will leave to the individual to decide just who exactly is the "Fool".

7. Like Zen, I understand it's about the Maharishi but |
|
the words certainly seem to fit *, with the exception of "he never shows his feelings". Chimpy is always showing his own insecurity by that stupid grin and how he laughs when he's trying to state something he needs people to believe.

11. Actually, I believe the Fool is in reality very wise. |
|
He's a fool to everybody else because he doesn't buy into the b.s. all around him. The song's character is analogous to the "Fool" card in the Tarot deck. I don't liken * to the Beattles Fool.
