OMG...are you watching Senate Amendment Hearings? Frist vs. Reid!
The final vote is NOW on C-Span 2.

Boxer and Dodd are great...and others were very good, too.

if a senator makes reference to an FBI report on the senate floor, they lose access to those reports.

25. Their amendment wants to revoke security privileges...
.. if any statements made "are used by the enemy as propaganda".
This is an amendment aimed squarely at Dick Durbin.

13. I believe Frist's Amendment says: Denies Access to Senators of FBI
Agent Reports (Barbara Boxer was totally against this because she woul lose her ability to read Classified Info..So the Repug's Amendment focuses on Senators to cover the fact that Dems pushed the Amendment against Rove..as Blow Back to obscure or obliterate the Dem Proposal which would have applied to Rove.

The "Dem/Reid Amendment"
strips "Security Clearance from ANY FEDERAL EMPLOYEE who reveals Classified Information...which would include Karl Rove. Now the Dem/Reid Amendment would NOT (to my understanding) apply to Senators or House Members who serve on Foreign Intelligence Committees.

That's the best I can do for you...on this. But our DEM's DID US PROUD on this DEBATE...and that the Repugs "hustled" to get a COUNTER AMENDMENT speaks to the fact that our DEMS action struck a "nerve" in the Repug Juggernaut.

15. My understanding re the Republican counter amendment
Is that it's to be used against anyone like Dick Durbin getting any bright ideas about quoting from FBI reports on military torture tactics. Standard repressive GOP stuff, really.

Found it at Talkingpointsmemo.com

"Any federal officeholder who makes reference to a classified Federal Bureau of Investigation report on the floor of the United States Senate, or any federal officeholder that makes a statement based on a FBI agent's comments which is used as propaganda by terrorist organizations thereby putting our servicemen and women at risk, shall not be permitted access to such information or to hold a security clearance for access to such information."

42. Josh Marshall's "TPM, website has this up explaining the difference in the
two Amendments: Frist vs. Reid. I don't know that this explanation makes it clearer but here it is:

--------------

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

Late Update: Here is the text of the so-called 'Frist Amendment': "Any federal officeholder who makes reference to a classified Federal Bureau of Investigation report on the floor of the United States Senate, or any federal officeholder that makes a statement based on a FBI agent's comments which is used as propaganda by terrorist organizations thereby putting our servicemen and women at risk, shall not be permitted access to such information or to hold a security clearance for access to such information."

---------------------------

From another TPM Reader ...

Harry Reid just introduced an amendment to the homeland security appropriations that would prevent anyone who discloses the identity of a covert CIA operative from having a security clearance. There will be 90 minutes of debate, and then a vote.

It's on C-SPAN2.

Late Update: You've got to watch this. They've got Sen. Coleman (R-WH) as Rove's designate water-carrier ... Now other Republican senators are standing up with cries of fealty. Duce! Duce! Think of Sen. Geary's impromptu speech at Michael's hearing in Godfather II.
