Karl Rove, Whistleblower: He told the truth about Joe Wilson.
http://opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110006955

Democrats and most of the Beltway press corps are baying for Karl Rove's head over his role in exposing a case of CIA nepotism involving Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame. On the contrary, we'd say the White House political guru deserves a prize--perhaps the next iteration of the "Truth-Telling" award that The Nation magazine bestowed upon Mr. Wilson before the Senate Intelligence Committee exposed him as a fraud.

For Mr. Rove is turning out to be the real "whistleblower" in this whole sorry pseudo-scandal. He's the one who warned Time's Matthew Cooper and other reporters to be wary of Mr. Wilson's credibility. He's the one who told the press the truth that Mr. Wilson had been recommended for the CIA consulting gig by his wife, not by Vice President Dick Cheney as Mr. Wilson was asserting on the airwaves. In short, Mr. Rove provided important background so Americans could understand that Mr. Wilson wasn't a whistleblower but was a partisan trying to discredit the Iraq War in an election campaign. Thank you, Mr. Rove.

<...>

If there's any scandal at all here, it is that this entire episode has been allowed to waste so much government time and media attention, not to mention inspire a "special counsel" probe. The Bush Administration is also guilty on this count, since it went along with the appointment of prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in an election year in order to punt the issue down the road. But now Mr. Fitzgerald has become an unguided missile, holding reporters in contempt for not disclosing their sources even as it becomes clearer all the time that no underlying crime was at issue.

As for the press corps, rather than calling for Mr. Rove to be fired, they ought to be grateful to him for telling the truth.

How can the WSJ still consider printing such fucking bullshit in what used to be the most respectable business newspaper in the nation? The WSJ Op/Ed section is now more worthless than Spewsmax and is bordering on being Freeperville in print.

2. Oh, man, I guess I had my eyes closed as I slipped into
the mouth of that rabbit hole. Sure wish I hadn't missed that.

These people are -- words absolutely fail me. They are BEYOND deluded, beyond sick, beyond brazen in their lies, beyond anything I ever thought of or imagined, and I think Orwell would agree.

3. Always was that way...
And you have to realize the opinion page has nothing to do with the rest of the paper.

I should have kept the copy from years ago when the front page story was about brokerages being investigated for ripping off their cutomers. Excessive fees, churning, bad trades... All of them were under the gun from the NY AG and the SEC.

Then, on the editorial page, they were calling for less regulation since the industry has proven it can regulate itself.

The mind is in a permanent state of boggle.

5. The 'rest of the paper'
printed front page stories about Weapons of Mass Destruction.

I canceled my prescription to the NYT during the Gore/Bush campaign when that political 'reporter' kept fawning over Bush. I'm soo happy that I can't even remember the pipsqueak's name. However, I did hear him on a panel discussion shortly after the 2000 coup where he said that he could put his 'opinion' in his 'news' reports because he explained how he was clever enough to pull it off. Bzzzzttt. That self-important jerk was exactly why I canceled my subscription. Joke's on him..... not that he or the NYT cares. Effem.

(Does anyone know who I'm writing about? What's his name?)

4. Who do we thank? Paul Gigot?
It's this kind of disgraceful bullshit that makes me despair for American journalism. Not much integrity around any more.
