I will say this, if Edwards comes in 2nd in NH---WATCH OUT. |
|
He could do very well in the Feb 3 states. A 2nd place finish in NH will give JRE even more press, and when the guy gets press his numbers go up. If it becomes an all out battle for delegates between Kerry and Edwards, I tend to like Edwards in that matchup. He appeals in places like SC, OK, MO, VA, FL etc etc. Places needed to win delegates. It could get crazy.

35. Edwards doesn't want to be Kerry's VP! |
|
And I don't want him to be MR. SKULL AND BONES' VP!
Why would Edwards taint himself by getting involved in Skull and Bones' crap???
And for the love of God would people get over the "HE COULD HELP US WIN SOUTHERN STATES" argument!
NO ONE VOTES BASED ON YOUR VP! ESPECIALLY NOT VOTERS IN NC, SC, TN, GA, OR VA!
If you are so worried about Dean or Kerry's ability to win southern states, and you all like Edwards anyway, then why not just vote for him in the first place! No one is going to select Edwards as a VP, because he would make that person on the top of the ticket look bad everytime that they campaign together!
Kerry might as well select Ted Kennedy as his VP if he is the nominee. Selected Edwards is not going to make anything easier for him.

Edwards would sweep the south and put Kerry in a hole. 1 on 1 I think Edwards could win. he is more likeable with a more compelling story.

12. Why would he accept 2nd if he is in position to sprint past Kerry? |
|
Even if untrue, he would have to play it that way. As they seek to explain the differences between them, there will be alot of negativity creeping up--especially if they become the only two. I just don't see how they could hook up--unless its at the convention or something.

*If JRE doesn't win this thing in his own right*
Bush and Reagan went at it in the 1980 primaries only to team up later.

The time for Edwards to shine has yet to emerge. Come next Tuesday I think we'll see him at the forefront and perhaps even gain "frontrunner" status.

Edwards puts forth a vision of America and the people respond. The mechanics of how to get there are all available as literature he passes out at campaign stops, as well as on his website.
He lets people know this before even engaging in his stump speech, telling them to go to his website for his exact policies.

I am especially impressed with his stance on poverty, and credit-card reform.
I always look forward to hearing him speak on these issues.
I think he will do very well in SC. My .02.

9. I've thought ever since Iowa |
|
that it would come down to Kerry :vs: Edwards.
If so, my big hope is that they can keep it friendly enough to eventually join up on the same ticket. Democrats accross America are starting to sense that Kerry/Edwards is a winner that could lead to 16 years of Democrats in the White House.
I'm pulling for it.

Course...in my scenario Edwards would already be the VP right now. In 2008 he'd pick up Harry Ford (who will be quite young still) and Harry would be the first African American president in 2016.
Ahhhhh dreams LOL.

and from the other times i have seen him he is really good. bill frist is going to leave the senate in 2008 (pretty sure it's for a presidential run) and i hope harold ford runs for senate then unless asked to be vp by the democratic president.

I'd really be happy with any of the candidates over Bush but Edwards is my favorite and Kerry a close second. I like aspects of all of the candidates actually, but decided to make a definitive decision recently and follow more closely.

I think it is VERY important that we pick someone who is an appealing speaker in addition to being eminently well-qualified and capable. We have to win over those people who aren't very interested in politics but don't like Bush, and can be persuaded to get to the polls. And JE certainly fills that bill, and more. He is terrific.
I also heard some of Dean's stump talk before JE began and I thought he was AWESOME today in style, and was strong in substance too, especially on specific environmental proposals. Very clear about what is wrong with * on many topics and what he would do differently.

21. I would lose some interest |
|
in the election if that would be the case. I'd like to be proven wrong and think Edwards could carry the nation (I'd vote for him). But the dire questions facing our democracy would go unanswered in my opinion. He could only carry the country in a general election if the average voter is completely disenchanted with bush (because he wouldn't address the voter who has security concerns and is susceptable to the bush propaganda machine on the subject).

If Edwards comes in second, he will become the man to beat. If Kerry comes in first in New Hampshire, then Kerry will become the candidate best positioned to stop Edwards from winning the nomination. But winning second place is the key for Edwards success. He must win in every southern primary, with the exceptions of Arkansas and possibly Oklahoma.
But if he doesn't get second in New Hampshire, then Edwards will not be able to defeat Clark in most of the south..or Kerry outside of it!
