I don't know if this would work or not, but just an idea. What if we all switched our voter registrations to Republican so we can all vote in Republican primaries. Our goal would be to nominate the absolute weakest candidate in the primaries, and then of course vote Democrat in the general election and presumably beat the weak candidate. Any thoughts?

3. In my state, (WI), you do not have to be a registered Repuke to vote in |
|
the republican primary, however, you must vote straight party ticket. So if a democratic incumbent is running (unopposed from within his own party), you can vote for a weak republican. I did it in the 04 senate race, but I felt a little sick selecting any name with an (R) next to it!:puke:

4. I change my registration whenever it is necessary. |
|
I voted 4 Simon in the CA gov primary cuz he was weaker than riordan who I thought could possiby beat Davis. I have even changed my registration 2 vote against a rethug incumbent in the primary. I have 2 put up w/ mail 'n phone calls 4 a bit. Right after the primary, I change it back.

I wouldn't want them doing it to us, and I'd rather not stoop to their level. (Granted, they wouldn't return the favor if the shoe were on the other foot, but I still wouldn't feel right about it.)

Especially when our Dems have better ideas and platforms and what's the word?... oh yeah, souls. Very few Republicans have well thought out positions or well articulated ideas. There are exceptions but they are the party of the lowest common denominator. We shouldn't need election fraud to beat them. An informed educated public is the GOP's worst enemy.

12. I don't know if it would qualify as election fraud |
|
since it would be fully within the law to vote for whomever one pleased, but it would be sort of "dirty," and while I know that the other side wouldn't show us the same respect, I still prefer to go with that whole "soul" thing you mention. :)
Sadly, though, they apparently do need election fraud to beat us, as evidenced by the last two general "elections."
Welcome to DU, Mafia Squirrel. :hi: Great name...any story behind it?

Everbody here is so welcoming, I'm flushed :)
At my first apartment we had a brave squirrel who would come up to the patio and "observe". I'm a sucker for squirrels, small mammals in general, so I started feeding him unsalted nuts and sunflower seed from a pet store. He was first the "Lord of the Squirrels" until other neighborhood critters got wise and tried to steal his free ride. That's when he began shaking them down and chasing them off. Gutsy for a fat little squirrel, granted he wasn't chasing off pit bulls or even house cats but I was impressed and addicted to the Sopranos at the time. Hence the Mafia Squirrel was born.

10. I could have stomached |
|
a McCain presidency. He seems like a decent man. I may not always agree with him, esp. when compared to someone like Gore or Kerry, but I don't think the world would be in the total shitstorm it is under a President McCain and we wouldn't be such a tragically divided country. I don't imagine that many of us on here would've seriously thought about moving to Canada until after '08 like I know I did this last Nov. 3rd.

but I wouldn't have termed him a winger.
He also would have trounced Gore badly in the election, instead of going down to defeat like W. :P

That ol' boy is a sheep in wolf's clothing. Before '00 he sure sang a different tune. Scary side of the Goldwater stuff w/ no redemption. Check his early record. Beware the opportunist, if there becomes an opportunity to put the screws to you they will. Beware the charismatic for theirs is the kingdom of deceit.

24. That would NEVER happen. Republicans secretly think |

McCain is a total whack job. They won't admit it publically, but try to have a discussion with them about the investigation into the MIA's in Viet Nam that he co-chaired with Kerry. They think he is, you know: N-U-T-Z

13. Every state's different. |

Some, like mine, have open primaries, where you can just walk in and say "I'd like the Reep (or Dem) ballot" on the day of the primary--so it's not such a big decision as for those who have to actually register their party affiliation.
As for whether it's a good idea, I'd say it depends on what kind of races you've got at hand. If you've got local Dems running unopposed, then maybe it does make sense to try to screw up the Reeps.
It's not like they don't ever do it to us, after all. Three years ago Reeps crossed over in GA to oust Cynthia McKinney during a Democratic primary. (she ran again and won, later.)

14. A better idea: register Republican so you can VOTE. |
|
Considering the illegal purges of voter rolls these days, I don't think it's safe to be anything but a registered independent or, if unavailable, a registered Republican.
Makes it a lot harder to actually scrub voters that way...though it does cause a problem of perception.
Ah, fuck it - what we need is voting like Canada does, pen and paper.

This Tricky Dick stuff is sophomoric in comparison with the things that are really going on these days at various levels. Are you kidding, I mean that this is an original and fabulously daring piece of cunning?

15. I'm thinking it's about the only thing we CAN do...voting machines |
|
can still "count" the primary votes for whomever the "powers that be" decide will continue their charade unchallenged, though.
Until we get the problem of republican-owned computerized vote counting machines taken care of in our local and State governments (the federal gov't is too busy taking graff to pay attention to ANYTHING ELSE), we won't have any type of Democracy in this country.
ONE BIG thing that switching our registration would do, is that the republican national committee would be spending one helluva lot more money on mailings, phone canvassers, etc. So, they would be wasting their money on us. That's a nice thought! Maybe we could even become "paid" telephone canvassers, and then we'd have jobs! We could use our new employment to get the word out in subtle, and not so subtle, ways....on their dime!
I think it's time to fight for our country, using WHATEVER tactics are necessary, so that we don't someday have to riot or revolt.

they've separated the primary (repug & green) and alleged caucus (dem) enough for quick change, al tho' the county clerks here make glaciers look like Ferrari's. i have thought about registering at my boys house in abq. so as to fight the wicked witch heather wilson. here's another idea- as i have witnessed a hard core repub in our dem caucus and believe there were others who took that initiative. i wonder.... perhaps we could say just the wrong (right) things to get infiltrators to say vote for kucinich in a primary. hey it could happen...

Maybe we can vote for the weakest Republican candidates too, and that way, they'll have total idiots running their show.
Oh, wait.

23. How about if the democrats nominate strong candidates |
|
with really good ideas (and an ability to express those ideas) so that it doesn't matter who the Republicans nominate, the Democrats will kick their butt?
For example, wouldn't it be really cool if the candidate were to say that decisions of the government should be based on what is in the best interests of the people and not necessarily what is in the interest of large corporations. That idea might fly with a lot of people. :D
