Sen. Carper to be named vice chairman of DLC
By JENNIFER BROOKS / News Journal Washington Bureau
07/15/2005

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Tom Carper has been tapped for a top post in the centrist Democratic Leadership Council.

He will be named vice chairman at the DLC's annual conference in Columbus, Ohio, later this month. The post could boost the national profile of Delaware's junior senator and give him a seat at the table as Democratic leaders work to draft a national strategy and message for the 2006 and 2008 elections.

"Democrats need to define ourselves by what we're for, not what we're against," Carper said Thursday. "We need to focus on what works to make us more secure as a nation, what works for job creation, what works to preserve and protect our environment."

Carper will introduce a few of his own ideas for the party when he addresses the DLC National Conversation on July 25.

The Democratic Leadership Council was founded in 1985 by Al From, an activist concerned that his party was losing touch with the mainstream.

1. A State That Could Elect A Real Democrat
Has this guy.

Connecticut- A State that could elect a real Democrat, has Liberman.

Let Alabama and South Carolina have the moderates! Senators from blue states such as Delaware and Connecticut need to be progressives.

5. BamaLeftie...you're right. I've got a good tool for you below.
While a moderate state, Delaware is the most corporate friendly state in the US (that's why so many companies choose to incorporate in Deleware). I'm glad this guy is a Democrat but having high up at DNC is just more of the same old same old.

Now that * is at 42%, people are going to realize and be more willing too accept the truth of 2004, it was stolen.

Here's a great tool for you in your battles to retake the South. Look it over. You may find it useful since it's a collection of strong information all in one spot.

3. Unfortunately this is his Patrick Henry score:
He's one of my senators (Biden being the other) and I'd love to be happy but I don't really like the DLC and I don't really like Carper, either.

8. The DLC: about as relevant as a Ford Turino
The last sentence of your post must be an illustration of an attempt at irony:

"The Democratic Leadership Council was founded in 1985 by Al From, an activist concerned that his party was losing touch with the mainstream."

Only in the bizarre universe of inside the beltway would such a thought take life.

I liked this description also 'in the centrist'. As the Democratic Party is supposed to represent the progressive political population, the DLC is actually right wing of the Democratic Party. There is nothing 'centrist' about their economic, foreign or domestic ideology.

'...Another presidential prospect, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, recently added her name to the DLC membership roll...'

I would think she would B a life-time member by now!

Thankfully, in California the DLC has, for all intents and purposes, ceased to exist. At one time boasting 40,000 members, they R now offering free membership to any showing interst.
