Fitzgerald and Leaks: A question
DU, and remarkably, the 3 Monkey Media

are all atwitter with the Rove story. Lots of new facts are being discussed, hashed, and rehashed.

But as this hashing moves forward, fact may be morphing into speculation. Even the 'stories' to which some of us link as proof for our own posits are, in and of themselves, at least partial speculation or conjecture. A few facts are connected to draw a conclusion. Or the same facts are restrung and a new conclusion is formed.

But what do we **factually** know? I've now read a bazillion stories, posts, posits, speculations, conjectures, opinions, and actual facts.

And I'm on overload.

What are the basic facts that we know about the case? Not about what's been swirling in the muddy waters left behind by Hurricane Karl. But what **facts** do we know about the direction of Fitzgerald's case?

I suspect they're precious few.

Please help me get both feet back to solid terra firma in a safe place in Reality World.

1. Fitzgerald hasn't leaked anything as far as I can tell
Time has leaked.

Cooper's lawyer leaked.

Rove's lawyer leaked.

The opinions of judges have been published as Fitzgerald pressed to get Miller and Cooper to testify.

Just from reading this stuff, it seems that at the very least Fitzgerald is going to go after Rove for perjury.

That may be the end of it, or it may just be step one.

2. Do you think Fitzgerald would have Miller in jail if this isn't HUGE
Fortunately, it's not up to us, or to Karl Rove at this point. It's up to a professional prosecutor who has been working this case for two years.

We may be confused. But Fitzgerald appears to know exactly what he's doing. Everyone seems to agree that Fitzgerald would not have gone this far without a "case".

The people who are most confused right now are at the White House. They have been reeling since Time turned over Matt Cooper's notes to the prosecutor.

4. I agree this is huge
I just want to separate fact from everything else. 'Everythng else' could come back to bite us on the ass.

Logic (and my *own* specualtion) tells me one of two things is true:

Either Fitzgerald has one bad-ass airtight case he's pushing ....

.... or ....

He is an obfuscator of biblical proportions for bushco.

I suspect the former is the better bet.

3. Know what's scary.......

Although I did not follow the Michael Jackson trial, it seems to me that there have been more leaks regarding national security, espionage, treason, etc. (and I know Sibel Edmonds is involved in this story somehow) than in the stupid trial of Michael Jackson.
Why aren't Nancy Grace and company doing show after show on THIS? I don't care about Natalie Holloway either.
What I care about is this country.

Edit: spelling. I know the spelling brigade is loose.

5. The only leak on this grand jury tonight
was the one the New York Times revelaed this morning.

A dime will get you a dollar that Fitzgerald will issue a subpoena to the reporter who wrote that story, too.

8. Somebody in the "legal arena" leaked that Rove testified that Novak
told him about Plame.

10. DU threads here - A (ROVE) lawyer leaked info which purports that Novak
told Rove about Plame. . .it is BS as far as I can tell. Take a Look at these DU threads:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1930561

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1930403

And definately take a look at this wise DU commentary:

"All these stories about ROVE LEARNED FROM JOUNALIST come from one source"

6. Of course you're right. Much of what we read is guessing.
To begin with, this is what I THINK we know:

Someone outed a CIA officers identity.

Rove spoke to Cooper & Novak.

Miller spoke to someone.

Many people testified before the GJ.

The prosecutor smells victory.

Most all other stories are "Heard from a confidential source" or "we've heard" stories that haven't been supported in public by fact.
