White House in panic over spy scandal
White House in panic over spy scandal

Bush is on the rack over a revelation that his close aide Karl Rove exposed a CIA agent

Paul Harris in Washington
Sunday July 17, 2005
The Observer

It was a question the White House press corps once believed unthinkable. Has President George W Bush lost confidence in his political guru, Karl Rove? If simply posing the question was a surprise last week, the answer - or, more accurately, the lack of one - was an even greater shock.

When Bush faced reporters at the White House last Wednesday, he dodged questions on Rove. Seated as ever, just behind his President, Rove himself was tight-lipped and pale. The Rove-Bush partnership has changed the face of American politics, propelling Bush from Texas to the White House. Not for nothing is Rove known as 'boy genius' to Republican friends and 'Bush's brain' to Democrat enemies. Now that is under threat.

The so-called 'Valerie Plame affair' has the Bush administration in a panic. An investigation into whether White House officials deliberately blew the cover of a CIA agent in an attempt to hit out at a critic of the Iraq war has Rove firmly in its sights.

The scandal has all the classic ingredients: an unmasked CIA agent - who just happens to be a glamorous blonde - and a tough-minded independent investigator. There are secret sources, leaked emails and even a reporter thrown in jail. The official White House spokesman, the normally unflappable Scott McClellan, has been caught making a grossly misleading statement. Newspapers are devoting page after page to the twists and turns of the case.

1. Great story.
Leave it to the foreign press to cover the truth that America's press doesn't cover, as usual.

3. If given a choice between loyalty and punishing anyone who makes *
look like an asshole (he can do that without anyone's help, thank you very much), I believe *'s survival instincts and vanity will dictate his decision appropriately.

7. Notice the wording here,
"...has Bush lost confidence in his 'guru'..."

As if anybody cares what Bush thinks. He's nothing more than window-dressing, a hologram leader, a cheerleader for the "unwashed masses" (as if he could inspire anybody to do anything, other than barf).

Certainly nobody in Washington cares what Bush thinks. He's the lackey. Cheney and Rove are the real powerhouses behind the phony leadership.

Even Randi Rhodes said it this week, "Cheney is the President, and Rove is the Vice President".

Not all go to LBN, GD, or GDP.
But some just go to LBN because the site is on top of what is happening in the world

11. thats WH spin too, Chaney outed Plame to hide his profiteering on WMDs
in the middle east and N Korea, Pakistan, Libia and Iran.. None of which would have Nuclear technology if he hadnt been involved with Haliburton and their minions profiteering from them getting it..

they were also protecting the Royal family Terrorists in Arabia...

25. Ding! We have a winner!
Glad to see ya seeing the darkness behind the Plame affair, sam.

Why would someone in the WH commit such a crime if it weren't to keep from getting nailed on something far bigger? It all reminds me of a common criminal running a stop sign to keep the cops from getting too close.

13. "I hope Rove rots in hell. . ."

So saith Larry Johnson, a former CIA operative.

I am more and more wondering just to what degree the CIA, or certain elements within it anyway, has worked to make sure this story does not wither and die. We had much discussion prior to the election about things like this, and several articles have been written at various times about the CIA's simmering war with this administration. If in fact the CIA is behind a lot of this, I find myself in the awkward position of cheering them on.

14. I've developed such paranoid delusions
that I wonder what else they are doing. They could be up to anything. I'm serious. * knows we hate Rove and so he's dangling him just out of the reach of our snapping jaws. I'm fearful this is a smoke screen to make 'us' feel like we're on to something...like the Geckhart/Gannon crap that fizzled into oblivion. Rove could just be bait to keep us occupied. While they hunt down Afghan and Iraqi nationals and send them off to other countries to be tortured. God, knows who they rounded up in this country right after Gonzales got in, and that story was instantly dropped. Rove isn't scared and neither is * they are above the law in our one party so called democracy. We may be on to something, but keep your eyes out for all the other stuff, the dirty tricks didn't start or stop with KKKarl outing Plame.

15. If those old stories in Capitol Hill Blue about Bush being nuts were true
about his sudden rages and outbursts, his angry fits and shouting, then what must the White House be like nowadays? Bush might be on all fours, gnawing on the carpets and chair legs.

19. If Rove didn't do anything illegal, he'll survive? What?
It was reported that Rove told the grand jury that he didn't know anything about the contents of the Novak piece until after it was published.
We now know that to be a lie. It's called perjury.

23. Excellent summary - Now why can't the US Media give as succinct & easy to
understand summary as this to the American people?

This tells the story, gives facts and timelines and even makes it an interesting read.....

How depressing that to get "real news" I find that I 99% of the time have to go to overseas news sources...now what does that say :eyes:
