Repubs defend Karl Rove for same reasons they defend Rush Limbaugh |
|
Both are very effective at keeping them in power. It doesn't matter if they are lying, drug-abusing propagandists or if they are hatchet men that would assassinate their own mothers. So long as they can keep their seats of power, that is all that matters. When they defend people like Karl Rove and Limbaugh, they are, in effect, defending themselves. They are a bunch of lowlifes.

5. But Is Anyone Listening Any More? |
|
With Bush's approval numbers now in the low 40s, the usual rightwing bloviators can talk all they want. I'm not so sure anybody cares about what it is they have to say these days.

7. I wonder how many listen to Rush anyway - |
|
I'm not sure his sponsors are interested in sales so much as promoting idealogy - Auto Zone for example: http://www.followyourmoney.com/cgi-bin/FYM.cgi?p=find_company&company_id=4886

8. They can't help but listen... |

Because, just like Mehlman all over the TV this morning, the Repubs get their message out, whether you like it or not. (Which is another argument in the "framing" debate) The Repubs have virtual control of the media.

9. but they have to know that when the public wises up and turns on |
|
Rove then, by extension, they're toast, too. I read something intersting the other day that Rove and Limbaugh visit about policy once a week as a matter of schedule. I'm sure the context is not about good policy/bad policy, but rather how to spin policy.

10. Agreed. Nothing matters but the end result. |
|
It's the same reason Republicans defend Bush's actions.
In addition, not defending them would be to admit that they were wrong about them in the first place. And, we all know that Republicans are never wrong.
